There are two meth ods known as clear cutting and selective cutting. Advantages of the clear cutting method^ which many ecologists have object ed to, are that it is more economical, and that better trees can be planted to replace those removed. The main objection seems to be that the area cut over looks bad for a number of years until the new trees grow to a certain hoighto The areas proposed for this tj^pe of treatment are limited in size to ^0 acres and a space of at least one mile must separate clear cut locations. A total of 1^0 acres to be clear cut is presently programmed, less than one half of one percent of the so called General Forest Zone. Also planned is creation of addition al recreation areas to use 300 acres dur ing the next five years. Planned pro ject costs in the Highlands area total some 5^387 >800 including trail and road maintenance. It was announced that the Highlands Club stood 3rd in the District in the attendance contest for July with 92.7^^ If only two members who missed meetings had made up at a neighboring Club we would have been in first place again.
