Schapfer said Hofeldt is excep
tionally well qualified to supervise
the two National Forests in Georgia. He
said the Chattahoochee gets extremely
heavy recreation use from the metropol
itan Atlanta area and added that much of
Hofeldt‘s background has been in the
field of Recreation.
Hofeldt has been serving as Assist.
Chief of the Division of Recreation in
the Atlezita dffice. He is a native of
Oregon, a graduate of Oregon State Uni
versity and a veteran of World War Two.
Sabin received his degree in For
estry at Syracuse University and bagan
work for the Forest Service in Califor
nia. He also has worked in the South
and East and was Deputy Supervisor of
the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas
before becoming Supervisor cf the Ozark
St. Francis three years ago* In Atlanta^
Sabin succeeds Hans Ram who has been
named Chief of the Division of Operation
in the Regional Office.

Forest Service Makes Changes
r^egional Forester T*A. Schlapfer
announced the appointment of Vaughn
Hofeldt as Supervisor of the Chattahoo-
chee-Oconee National Forests in Georgia,
succeeding Darold Westerberg who is
transferring to Washington.
Schlapfer also announced that James
Sabinj Supervisor of the Ozark=St. Fran
cis National Forests in Arkansas, will
move to Atlanta as Chief of the Division
of Lands and i^iinerals in the Forest Ser
vice *s Southern Region Office.
Westerberg is being promoted to a
new position in the Division of Timber
Management in theWashington Office. He
has been Forest Supervisor in Georgia
since 196? •
