Harvest Dance Set For Saturday Night

Sigma Tau Chi Sorority will spon
sor the annual Harvest Dance Sat
urday night in the lobby of the
Classroom Building. It will begin
at 8 p.m.
The sorority announced today
that its pledge captains wiU be Miss
Peggy Greene and Miss Margie
Dixon.
All Sigma Tau Chi pledges met in
Miss Barbara Butler’s room at
Harper Hall at 5:00 Wednesday,
October 29, and received their in
structions. ’
The formal pledge ceremony for
aU Sigma Tau Chi pledges wiU be
held Monday, November 3, at 4:30
p.m. at the Delta Sigma Phi Fra
ternity house. At that time the
pledges will receive their tied rib
bons.
At the meeting Monday afternoon
the members of Sigma Tau Chi
elected Miss Betty Boyette to rep
resent the sorority in the Home
coming Queen Contest.
Mrs. Marys Littrell was elected
chairman of the Homecoming
Float Committee. Miss Peggy
Greene, Miss Ida Sue Neighbors
and Miss Joan Overton are serving
on this committee.
The preparations for the annual
Harvest Dance were nearing com
pletion this morning. This after
noon members of Sigma Tau Chi
will go to Miss Betsy Boykin and
Miss Margie Dixon’s homes to
make cookies for the dance. The
sisters are also going to gather
leaves, cornstalks, bushes and
trees to decorate for the dance.
Sig Ep Receives
Scholarship Cup
Sigma Phi Epsilon has received
the scholarship cup from the Na
tional Headquarters of Sig Ep as
an award for achieving the highest
scholastic average among the fra
ternities on campus.
Mrs, Essie Davis, house mother
of Caldwell Hall, has been made
honorary house mother of Sigma
Phi Epsilon. The fraternity pre
sented her a gift for her assistance
during Rush Week.
Final plans are being made for
the Homecoming Banquet which
will be held on November 22. The
banquet will be held at the Cherry
Hotel at 5:30. The members and
pledges have sent invitations to all
alumni and their wive^ and also to
their sister sorority bmega Chi.
The main speaker for this event
wiU be Richard Whiteman, Execu
tive Director of Sigma Phi Epsi
lon.
Hugh B. Johnston, Professor of
Foreign Languages, has been ac
cepted for membership in Sigma
Phi Epsilon. He will be initiated
into the fraternity in the near fu
ture.
License plates are still being sold
by the fraternity members. Any
one may purchase one of these for
$1 from any member of the fraterni
ty.
Delta Sigma Studies Rush Week

During the last meeting of the
Delta Sigma Sorority, Rush Week
activities were discussed. Elected
pledgemaster for the coming activ
ities was Miss Lynne Crews. Miss
Peggy Pittman, president of Delta
Sigma, announced at this meeting
that the formal pledge ceremony
will be held at the regular meeting
of the sorority on Monday, Novem
ber 3, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapter
Room of the Phi Delta Gamma
house on Whitehead Avenue.
It was also at the meeting Mon
day that homecoming plans were
made. Miss Pittman was elected
Homecoming Queen candidate for
the sorority and Miss Glenda White
was chosen to head the committee
for the homecoming float.
It wais announced that Miss Glen
da White and Miss Nita Brown are
to be in charge of refreshments
at the next meeting.

a per-centage allotment for each
student. This year each of the or
ganizations dependent on the stu
dent activity fee has submitted an
itemized budget for approval This
necessitated a new record keeping
system. The new system was' ex
plained by Mr. Milton L. Adams,
Business Manager of the college
Upon receipt of a letter from the
Unized States National Student As
sociation regarding ACC’s being
host for a convention of the organi
zation, a committee headed by
Jimmy Boswell was appointed to
study the possibility of housing the
delegates. Also serving on the com
mittee are Miss Sally Jo Griffin,
and Dr. Dan McFarland.
Another letter from the USNSA
was read regarding sponsoring
foreign students. The Executive
Board decided to request further
information.
Discussion of the possibility of
providing one - half price tickets
for student activities for the wives
or husbands of married students
was held. The Executive Board
sent a recommendation to the Ath
letic Committee calling their atten
tion to this matter.
President George Griswold re
ported on the North State Student
Government Association meeting
held in High Point on October 22.
He reported that the conference
will choose an all conference cheer-
leading squad composed of the out
standing cheerleader from each
school in the North State confer
ence. It was reported that an out
standing student government will
be chosen from the conference each
year, Griswold also reported that
no one attended the USNGA Presi
dents and Deans meeting in Green
ville last week.
The Executive Board passed a
motion to pay for repairs on the
record player that is part of the
public address system in the Bo-
hunk.

Delta Sig Selects Contestant

Miss Nancy Forbes of Wilson has
been chosen to represent Delta Sig
ma Phi in the Homecoming Queen
contest. The queen will be crowned
at the William and Mary Basket
ball game on November 21.
During last week, which was
Rush Week, approximately sixty
boys visited the frat house. They
toured the house, met the brothers
and were served refreshments. Ac
cording to Lou Eaton, “Rush Week
was a very" successful week.”
On Monday night. Delta Sig will
fete the new pledges at a supper.
The affair will be stag and will
be held in Elm City.
Delta Sigma Phi has been chosen
to serve a dinner for the Baptist
Ladies Conventioii which will be
held in Wilson. The convention will
be held at the Wilson Community
Center on November 6.
The fraternity is making several
plans for the future. A hayride is
being planned for all the new
pledges. The big brothers are Ix;-
ing picked for each pledge for
pledge week.
Two weddings are being plan
ned for November and December.
Paul Blake will marry Miss Elea
nor Herring, President of Sigma
Tau Chi, on Th:^nksgiving Day. On
December 28, Abner Gore will wed
Miss Kay Fore, a member of Sig
ma Tau Chi.
Omega Chi Has Halloween Party
Omega Chi Sorority held a Hal
loween party at its meeting Mon
day afternoon. Refreshments were
served and the traditional Hallo
ween theme was carried out dur
ing the meeting.

Revealed Today
Plans for this year’s homecom
ing parade which wiU be built
around the theme “Around the
World In Eighty Days” have been
announced. The homecoming pa
rade will be held on Saturday
morning, November 22, beginning
at 11:00 a,m.
The dead line for entry of floats
is today. All entries must be given
to Miss Mickey Raynor of the Phys
ical Education department by to
day
The parade will start on Nash
street at the Cherry Hotel .It will
progress down Nash Street to By
num and then go down Bynum to
Lee. On Lee the parade will go to
Whitehead, and then down White
head to College Avenue where it
will break up.
A reviewing stand will be set
up in front of the court house .The
homecoming dignitaries and the
judges will view the parade from
this point. The parade is to be
judged by three local merchants.
As in the past three prizes will be
presented; first prize $10, second
prize $7,50, and third prize $5,00.
The floats will be judged on origin
ality, beauty, and on how well
they relate to the theme. The win
ning floats will be announced at
the half-time 'of the basketball
game on Saturday,
If groups are in need of trucks
on which to build floats, they should
see Miss Raynor for information.
It will be announced at a later
date where the floats will be built.
The deadline for completion is

Phi Epsilon Fraternity will hold
a brother - sister banquet at the
Hotel Cherry on November 22 for
the alumni, pledges, and members.
Miss- Nancy Coker, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coker, was
elected as an unofficial mascot for
Omega Chi and attended the meet
ing Monday afternoon.
Miss Emily Poe was elected as
the new Historian for Omega Chi.
Phi Delt Talks
With Nationals
Phi Delta Gamma Fraternity is
currently corresponding with three
national social fraternities con
cerning affiliation, it was revealed
this week by John Anthony, Phi
Delt president.
Anthony said all three of the fra
ternities had contacted him by let
ter asking that Phi Delt consider
affiliation with them. The three fra
ternities are Sigma Pi, Phi Kappa
Tau, and Kappa Sigma Kappa.
Anthony said four other frater
nities had also written to him about
affiliation but that they were not
being considered by his local fra
ternity.
At its meeting this week, held
Monday night at the fraternity
house, members of Phi Delta Gam
ma named Miss Glenda White as
its candidate in the Homecoming
Queen’s contest. Miss White is a
member of Delta Sigma Sorority,

Alpha Sigma Phi Names Sponsor

At a short meeting held by Al
pha Sigma Phi Fraternity on Mon
day night, John Dunn was initiated
as a sponsor of the fraternity,
Mr, Dunn, a member of the facul
ty in the Science and Mathematics
Department, became the second
advisor to be accepted into Alpha
Signtia Phi, Warren Tait, also a
member of the Science and Math
ematics Department, was initiat
ed earlier in the capacity of spon
sor.
On Monday, the members of the
fraternity had a through clean-up
of both the inside and outside of
the fraternity house.
President Don Lee and the Rush
ing Chairman, A, E, Thompson,
spoke to the pledges at a formal
pledging ceremony at the fraterni
ty house last night at 9:00 p,m.
With the second half of the foot
ball season underway this week,
the fraternity is looking forward to
a better second half and perhaps
a top place finish.
Alumnae Fete Phi Sigma Tau

ters. The girls were served pop
corn and cokes along with trick-
or-treat bags.
Plans were made at this meet
ing for the Homecoming Supper.
Miss Hilda Sermons was chosen as
the sorority’s candidate for Home
coming Queen. A committee to be
in charge of a float theme and dec
orations for the sorority house was
also chosen. Miss Annette Fuller
will be in charge of this commit
tee.
