The Collegiate PUBLISHED WEEKLY ATLANTIC CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, DECEMBER 18, 1959 NUMBER ELEVEN Exec Board Airs Poor Operations Holiday Greetings Christmas stirs emotions old and new. It leads our minds back throug^h the years into the dim dawn of our own awareness that Christ mas differed from all other days. Since those days, Christmas has gathered about itself a special package of memories and emotions for each one of us. As our students and faculty leave our campus for the Christmas Holidays they will be following their hearts to those places where the Christmas Festival came into its richest meaning. To each member of our college family, I extend warmest greetings and the hope that your observance of this Christmas Festival will bring you the deeper joy and peace which we trace back through the years of history to a lowly Judaean manger. Sincerely, ARTHUR D. WENGER, President ACC Students Praised By Recreation Official Open Rush Seen As Possibility By Greek Council The possibility of having an open rushing program on the Atlantic Christian College campus was dis cussed by the Interfraternity Coun cil at its meeting held last week. Sammy White, president of the IFC, attempted to explain the pro cedure that would go into effect if this plan were adopted. He said that the fraternities afld sororities wduld be able to “rush” through out the school year and students could pledge an organization at any time. Regular Program White added that this plan would not concern freshmen. There would be the regular rushing program for them. The new program would concern transfer students above the freshman level and upper - classmen who had never joined a fraternity or sorority. A committee had been appoint ed to study the possibilities of adopting some type of open rush procedure at an earlier meeting of the IFC, but the chairman of the committee was not present at last week’s meeting. In spite of the absence of a re port from the committee, the Council decided to discuss the is sue of open rush witho<ut a report from the committee. No decision could be reached, however, so the members of the Council decided to invite an authority from ano ther college who knew more about open rush to explain it to the IFC. To Invited White said that he would invite Bill Wallace, president of the IFC of East Carolina College, to the next ACC IFC meeting to explain how open rush works on the ECC See IFC Page 3 Two Week Break BeginsTomorrow Books ‘will be put in the cor ner, the classrooms will be clos ed, and activities will cease as the Christmas vacation begins with the end of classes tomor row. The following letter was re ceived last week by Dr. Arthur D. Wenger, ACC President, from J. Burt Gillette, Director of the Department of Prrks and Recrea tion for the City of Wil.'^on. Dear Dr. Wenger: “Please convey my appreciation to the students of Atlantic Christ ian College for their exemplary conduct both physical and moral preceding and during the Tommy Dorsey Dance. “Every effort was m.ade by the staging or props committees to protect the gym floors before the dance began, and during the dance I did not see one person do any thing that might damage them. “I am sure that the entire stu dent body is interested in the fact that after the building was clean ed, no damage to the gym floor could be dete^ed. “Since its completion your stu dents have ueed the fafiiUticii of the Recreation Park Community Center extensively, and I can truthfully say that they could riot have exercised more care in its use than if it had belonged to each See LETTER Page 3 Treasury System, jAbsent Members Topics Discussed By RALPH MESSICK Collegiate Co-Editor The Executive Board of the at- lantic Christian College Coopera tive Association took a hard look at its plan of operations Monday night. After doing so, several matters were listed for changes to improve the working order. The first matter examined was that of the treasury system. It was the observation of board mem bers that bills are being paid much later than they should be. ITiere were complaints brought by mem bers of the board from groups on the campus indicating that over due bills are creating an unfavor able credit reputation for the col lege. Second Matter Second matter discussed was extensive absences from the sche duled board meetings by members of the board. Included in the dis cussion wore the absences of both student and faculty members of the board. Kenneth Bryan, Treasurer of the Cooperative Association, was ab sent when the meeting began. Af ter a recess was called, the meet ing was re - convened with Bryan present to discuss the matter of overdue bills. Bryan was asked to explain the difficulty he is encountering in pay ing bills when they are submitted. He said he needed requisitions. Some people expect the bills to be paid almost immediately, he ex plained. He said some of these people fail to submit requisitions making the payment of these biUs impossible under the present sys- etm. i See EXEC BOARD Page 2 Cinda Bunting Crowned Pine Knot Queen Miss Cinda Bunting, an Atlantic Christian College sophomore from Robersonville, was crowned Pine Knot Queen at the annual Christ mas Dance held in the lobby of the classrooml building Saturday night.
