The school was fortunate in scheduling Hunt for May 13; he is to speak at graduation exercises at North Carolina State University on May 14 where he will receive another honory degree. Hunt, an advocate of high educational goals, will be an appropriate speaker for AC’s Departmental News Art Sculpture students have begun lorking with a new metal- asting crucible, recently in- ialled in the art building. Mrs. Shackleford is one of only seven poets who will conduct seminars and workshops. Mrs. Shackleford will be instructing poets on “mimi-forms” of poetry, which are haiku and other short poetry forms. Professional and amateur poets are invited to attend the festival. Registration will be held in the Ramada Inn Lobby from 11:30 to 3; 00 on Friday. Several members of the English Department faculty will be involved in special projects this summer. Dr. Ted Foy, Dr. Richard Schneider, and Dr. David Marshall have received grants from the Faculty Growth and Welfare Committee to do special studies in various areas. Department Chairman, Dr. James Hemby, and Mr. Thomas Marshall of the Art Department will attend seminars this summer at Syracuse University. The seminars will deal with curriculum programs. History On Saturday, April 16, the History Department organized a trip to Old Salem, the restored Moravian settlement in Winston- Salem, North Carolina. Seventeen students and three faculty members participated. Pi Gamma Mu aided in finan cing the transportation for the trip. Senior Recital Jeff Gibson, a native of Bat- tleboro, was presented in a senior percussion recital by the Atlantic Christian College Department of Music, Monday, April 25, in Howard Chape], at 8 p.m., on the college campus. A music education major, he is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Gibson of Stantonsburg, and a graduate of Northern Nash Senior High School, Rocky Mount. Gibson’s program included “Concertino for Marimba,” by George Frock; “Minuet,” by Mozart; a “Bach Invention in D Minor”; “The Flight of the Bumblebee,” by Korsakov; and various other multi-persussion, rudimental, and ensemble pieces. Seventeen Atlantic Christian College students were recently inducted into Alpha Chi national honor fraternity. Membership in the fraternity is based entirely upon scholarship. Irvine, Assistant Professor of Art at Atlantic Christian College, has been elected President of the North Carolina Art Education Association. The annual meeting was held in Asheville, North Carolina where he took office. This professional organization represents all of the public school art teachers, supervisors, and college art educators in North Carolina. Prof. Irvine will serve as President-Elect for two years; President for another two years, and will continue to serve on the Executive Council for an additional two years. He has just completed six years of service on the Executive Council, holding various positions for the organization.
