Couple Named to Council Yeats Speaks at ACC WILSON - Sen. Michael Yeats, the son of Ireland’s most famous poet, William Butler feats, and a distinguished statesman in his own right, will deliver a series of lectures on literature and European econ omics at Atlantic Christian College, on March 25-26. He willbe accompanied by his wife, Grainne, an accomplished harp ist and singer of Irish folk ballads, who will present a ptogram of Irish songs and Mads. The senator and his wife are i»'0 of modern Ireland’s most fctinguished leaders in cultural and political affairs. Sen. Yeats Wed as chairman of the Irish Senate frotn 1969 to 1973. He 'fsigned from that position to Iwome a member of the European Parliament on Ireland’s accession to the Com- ®oti Market. He is now vice-president of the nine-nation parliament. WILSON, N.C. - Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Jefferies Jr., of Wilson, are serving as co-chair men of the Alumni Parents Division of the Atlantic Christ ian College Development Coun cil, according to R. E. Kirkland Jr., chairman of the council. They are among a group of noted business and industrial leaders, professional and civic leaders who are chairing divis ions on the council. The council is conducting a continuing pro gram to secure $22 million over a 10-year period to upgrade the college’s overall operations. Funds secured through the select group will be utilized for enlarging and improving the college’s facilities and substant ially increasing its endowment, Jefferies said he is giving his support to Atlantic Christian College because, “Atlantic Christian College is an import ant part of Wilson’s history and a necessary and essential part of Wilson’s future.’’ He is general manager for Belk-Tyler Stores of Wilson and has 42 years of service with the ccOTpany. He received the A. B. degree from Lenoir-Rhyne College, completed the execu tive program at East Carolina University, the advanced executive training program at Georgia State, and the executive development program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ed. degree from East Carolina University where she made straight A's and the Ph. D. degree in Dec., 1979 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Jefferies has been in volved in college teaching since 1962. She is a member of the ACC Woman's Club and the »ec page 4 NURSING SCHOLARSHIP: Richard Simler, a senior nursing student at Atlantic Christian College, was recently awarded the Allstate Nursing Scholarship by the North Carolina League for Nursing. The scholarship was presented through the ACC Department of Nursing and is valued at $450. It is awarded on the bases of financial need aca demic achievement. Simler and his wife Joanne, also a nurse, make their home in Garner.
