do Lett & September 22,1980 Atlantic Christian College Number S ACADKMY AWAlllKS COME TO ava: ' - j For the first time in the history- of the Academy Awards, there has never been a variable coupe’ etat in the area of real life drama. This year, the Nursing Department of ACC made a complete conquest of all the awards. It is my great pleasure to announce the win ners of this year's awards. For Best Producer: Goes to a woman who is very blunt, very honest, a woman of ingenuity, a woman of character. This person (a human being) has designed her whole life around real life drama -- nursing. Remember that nursing is car ing for the sick AND caring for the healthy professionally. This is her roots, her foundation she has built her whole life around. She is a person who is always scaling the mountain trying to reach the top of perfection. Students of ACC* don’t let her outer appearance fool you — give her a chance!!She is a teacher who tries to ignite the sparks of discovery within ourselves. She is a woman who cares very much about you. Yes folks, she is tough because she wants you to become the best possible person you are capable of . This award goes to the chairwoman of the Nursing Department - Dr. Sue Hunter. Best Director: Goes to a group of people, teachers that enthus iastically apply their knowledge and know how of nursing. Like many nurses (Clara Barton material), they are dedicated to the nursing cause. They make every effort possible to give their time to the students, in order to get this help, you must go out and get it from them, not waiting for them to come to you. Yes folks, they run a tight ship, they have to. especially when we are dealing with people’s lives. Believe me, this ship is not like the Titanic, it’s more like the Queen Mary. I’d like to present the Oscar for Best Director to the Nursing Faculty 1980. The next award goes to the Best Actors/ Actresses, Best Supporting Actors/ Actresses. These are the hard core nursing j students of ACC who spend many laborious hours studying. Their day starts way before sunrise and finishes sometimes way into the night. They literally sleep, think, and cat nursing. They basically do it because it’s their way of show ing love to their fellow man. Yes folks, it takes a special person to do it and that’s what makes nursing so special. These students give up a lot. but in return, they will reap for what they have sown! 1 am proud to present this Oscar to the Nurs ing students of 1980. And now for the award that sums up the expertise of the Production, Direction, and Act- mg in this true to life drama; we present the Academy Award for Fall 1980 to the Nursing Depart ment of Atlantic Christian Coll ege. The Nursing Department is engineered to help the student systematically learn the cxin- ccpts and processes necessary to nn>dern nursing. The con cepts presented are holistic man, general systems theory, human growth and develop ment, Maslow's Heirarchy of Basic Needs, Stress and Adap tation and the Health-illncss continuum. "PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER...” SIGMA Pill EPS1L0^^ EDITOR'S NOTE: “The Colleg iate” will do a special profile report on the various fratern ities, sororities, and special organizations on the campus of Atlantic Christian College. We will present these profiles as the organizations discussed should be [despite certain stereotypes placed upon them]. We will just objectively present the facts. The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, commonly known as the Sig Ep’s, was founded in 1901 in jur upstairs neighbor, the state of Virginia. This particular chapter grew out of a local fraternity, the Sigma Rhop Pi, which was founded at our own Atlantic Christian College. Let me tell you right now, before we explore the world of the Sig Ep’s, it's the second largest fraternity in the WORLD be, n de. xion Like every great piece of work, such as a song, a book, the biggest super-structured build ing, they all share this special substance. It's how the melody and lyrics create the number one song; the vocabulary - the story, how it’s written that makes a book a best seller; it’s how the foundation, the skel eton, the materials, the man power, the ingenuity are all put together that make the world’s s OAK CONCERT Everyone is invited to a concert this Friday night at 8:15 p.m. in Wilson Gymnasium. The rock group Oak will perform. Oak has just released their first album entitled “Oak” with the hit single "This Is Love” featured on it. Admission free for AC students and faculty with I.D. and $2.00 for guests, so come on out and jam with Oak this Friday night. largest building so for Sigma Phi Epsilon. How is the fraternity built? What are the vital organs that make this fraternity so down to earth? The Sig Ep's are built on virtue instead of success. Virtue is their main substance. THat virtue of which we speak is composed of trust, which leads to friendship. Both of these together give the grand total of BROTHERHOOD.These three qualities are not handed down to you if you are a new Sig Ep. In order to achieve this brother hood the Sig Ep way. you must establish and develop that trust, which then in turn leads to friendship and then eventually with time, you achieve the ultimate goal of BROTHER HOOD. Let's keep exploring the Sig Ep world and see what adven tures we encounter together and find more of the treasures of this popular fraternity. The Sig Ep's have a varity of resources. They have ingenuity that imaginative resource called inventiveness, through their years of existence. They have within their hands a very im portant resource called leader ship. Each individual in the fraternity is a leader, an ex ample to one another in the brotherhood. They also have a very unique resource. They have a melting pot of personal ities, cultures, ways of life; beliefs which are all under one brotherhood! They are ready to accept each other as they really are. They may not agree with someone personally, but they have learned to accept each other's faults, try to improve and move upward. None of these resources could have been achieved without the biggest and largest asset of all (which virtually no other fraternity can match - MANPOWER. If a person expects to get out of this school with a sheepskin, then he will have to take English 2(M. In English 204, you will study a very famous Greek hero, Ulysses. He was known for his wisdom, sense of judgment, and shrewdness. Well, he spent many years trying to find his home. He eventually found it, a feat he could never have accom plished without these qualities. So too for the Sig Ep’s. Their search for a permanent home ended on August 18 when they purchased the house at 606 Nash Street. Their new home consists of fifteen rooms - bedrooms which arc huge, bath rooms that you can get lost in, and living and dining rooms which are KING KONG SIZE! They have a kitchen in which you can fit a complete catering service. The Sig Ep’s are doing their own remodeling. They have already converted the attic into two spacious and cozy rooms. They have remodeled some of the bathrooms by installing new shower stalls, doing their own plumbing and carpentry work. They also plan to remodel the kitchen, build an office for their president, and landscape their property. Be lieve me, they have the ingenuity and the manpower! zl’J. ■flag, 8
