There is a terrible epidemic going around campus TOO
MA.NY students are getting involved in the campus activities and
stuff. Something is reallv going to have to be done, and fast. I
mean this is the week of Atlantic Christian's annual class
elections and all the positions have candidates running for office.
Some positions actuallv have more than one candidate! Isn’t that
disqusling? Oh, there's also five positions In which the
candidates running have the exact same first and last names!
“Write In," I think It Is. I wonder if they’re all related In some
way? Getting back to what I was talking about, does this mean
that students are actually starting to care about what goes on
around here? I hope not. If something that horrible occured, it
would wipe out the apathy issue on campus. This of course
would take away a major topic in which to write on.
Well, since this Is election week, I know everybody Is just
buzzing around telling every body else [and arguing too] of the
pros and cons of the respective candidates. There are constant
debates going on throughout the campus. All the candidates can
be seen making speeches and publicly stating their views on
different campus issues at almost anytime during the day. All
the potential hopeful’s are VIGOROUSLY campaigning to try to
get the jump on their opponents. There Is even talk about
forming ANOTHER major party on campus and having mass
conventions in the old gym. These obvious occurances have
really hurt my morale as editor of this paper. It seems as though
the apathy issue is diminishing fast. What are we here at the
Collegiate gonna do? Our only hope is for a low voter turnout.
But considering the huge size of the recent student party rallies,
that's very doubtful.
All I can say is, this is quite a change from what the usual
candidates do. I bet the candidates for this year wouldn’t believe
JusI how slack and uncreative past candidates have been. I mean
all they did was put up a few posters and leave it at that.

To the Editor.
1 would like to thank and
congratulate you and your staff
for doing such a terrific job on
the Collegiate. As a transfer
student, 1 found my first couple
of weeks here at Atlantic Chris
tian College disappointing. 1
met many friendly students and
l liked my classes, but there are
many colleges that could have
offered me that. The main
reason that 1 chose to come to
Atlantic Christian College was
that it is a CHRISTIAN College.
The main reason for my disap
pointment was the atmosphere
at A.C.C. did not seem to
coincide with the stated aim of
the college in the charter:
“Atlantic Christian College is
organized to maintain and oper
ate an institution of learning, for
the education and instruction of
qualified students WITHIN
THE FRAMEWORK OF
CHRISTIAN IDEALS AND
PRINCIPLES and under the
auspices of the Christian Church
I Disciples of Christ] in North
Carolina.’’
The past several issues of the
CoUegiate though, along with
the chape! services sponsored
by the C.C.A.,and the weekly
meetings of Alpha-Omega have
been greatly encouraging. They
have shown me that even if the
overall spirit of the campus
doesn't seem to reflect the aims
of the college, there are still
those around who are striving to
maintain the ideals and prin
ciples that A.C.C. stands for.
I have heard that some
students on campus do not like
the "Christian" emphasis of the
CoUegiate. To those students 1
would just like to say that if you
knew the Lord as Christians do.

To the Editor.
1 think it is wonderful that the
Collegiate seems to care so
much about the waste of energy
that "Energy. We can’t afford
to waste it.” is used so much in
last weeks paper, but I wish
your actions showed this
concern. Every time I go by the
office (which is across the hall)
the lights are on and no one is to
be found. So please try to be a
little more aware of the example
you set.
I’m sure most of you have
heard about ‘‘burning the coals
of kindness.” Fully under
standing this is a very important
step in the life of any Christian,
In fact, kindness is a virtue that
everyone should strive for.
I guess when talking about
"kindness,” it would be very
appropriate to mention Ephes
ians 4:32. It goes as follows,
‘‘And be ye kind one to another.
tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, even as God for
Christ's sake hath forgiven
you.” What does this beautiful
scripture really say?
Let’s analyze the first phrase
of the verse, ‘‘And be ye kind
one to another....” This section
means exactly what it says, to
be kind to your fellow man.
The next part of the scripture
is “tenderhearted.” This
means ‘‘easily moved to love
pity, or sorrow.” ‘‘Compasion-
ate” is another way to say this.
That in turn means being able to
recognize anothers’ distress and
having a willingness to help
alleviate it.
Can anyone figure out what
“forgiving one another’’
means? The answer to that
is one of the most important
aspects of being a Christian.
One way to define "forgiving”
would be to say, the act of
pardoning a person for offend
ing you. Or to quote Mr.
Webster, it means "to cease to
feel resentment against an
offender.” Sometimes this is
one of the hardest things in the
world to do. BUT, we just have
to try our best. Ephesians 4:31
states, ‘‘Let all bitterness, and
wrath, and anger, and clamour,
and evil speaking, be put away
from you, with all malice:”
Kind of speaks for itself, doesn’t
it? In case you haven't figured
it out yet, this is the verse that
leads up to Ephesians 4:32, the
one we’re discussing.
Now, getting back to that
verse, we are at the fijji
which is, “ even as
Christ’s sake hath
you. ” This is perhaps tbe j
important part of the ^
verse. God sent His sosij^
Christ) to die on the cross
was all part of the grand pfc
“forgive” us from out
God is not asking us to

doesn’t it? That’s because itt
As I said before, fo!lov,-iiijt

OF the: week
To the Editor;
It was back in the year 1902,
that Atlantic Christian College
opened its’ doors to students for
the first time. Since then we
have grown from a small, almost
unnoticable, speck on the North
Carolina countryside, to a major
private college, producing some
of the finest alumni in the state.
Not to mention the already
famous Nursing Department that
was rated third in the state, but
we also have outstanding pro
grams in Education, Business,
Psychology, Religion, History.
Sociology, English, Science, Art,
Music, Math, and Physical Ed
ucation.
We, have an extremely high
rate of placement, and a large
majority of the students which
attend, continue their education
long after they have departed
this campus.
A record of such high standing,
is for the most part, due to the
excellent guidance and instruc
tion that we receive while we are
here. Professor, who spend

It is my great honor to announce
that this weeks ‘‘Donkey of the
Week” Award goes to the
Atlantic Christian College com
puter that produced the list of
the campus’ Episcopalian stu
dents.
Not only did the computer
make the "human” mistake of
leaving off a few of the obscure
names, but it also left off the
name of Bill Cowper. ‘‘Who in
the world is Bill Cowper?” you
may ask. He just happens to be
the president of the Atlaia
Christian College Canterbur
Club (for Episcopalian sn
dents)!
So until next time
