THE BENNETT BANNER
DECEMBER, 1959
News From Around

Everybody is “steady” count
ing the days until December 22
when they will be “making it”
home for tiie holidays, “but good”
for days and nights together!
The spirit is in the air and if
you are planning a “Swinging”
Christmas, here is a poem by
Clement Moore that will boost
your morale: A Visit From Saint
Nicholas.
’Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the pad
Not a hep cat was swinging, and
that’s nowhere, dad;
The stove was hung up in that
stocking routine.
In hopes that the fat man would
soon make the scene;
The kids had a!l had it so they hit
their sacks.
And me and the bride had begun
to relax.
When there started a rumble that
came on real frantic
So I opened the window to figure
the panic;
1 saw a square short that was
makin’ fat tracks.
Bein’ pulled by eight dogs who
were wearing hat racks;
And a funny old geezer was flipp-
in his lid , ,
He told ’em to “make it” and man,
like they did!
I couldn’t help diggin’ the scene
on the roof,
As I stood there just waiting for
chubby to goof;
They stood by the chminey in
bunches' and clusters
’Til! tubby slid down, coming on
like Gangbusters.
Like he was the squarest, the
. ..’nost absolute.
But face it, who cares when he
left all that loot?
He laid the jazz on me and fled
from the gig.
Wailing, “Have a cool yule and
man later, Mke, dig?
On November 28, from 9-1 a. m.
-rthe Bennett family had its annu
al Thanksgiving Ball. The lovely
decorations entwined the theme,
“Harvest Moon;” the attire was
semi-formal. We wero entertain
ed with music by Charlie Morri
son and his all-stars. During the
intermission, refreshments were
served in the foyer.
“The Blue Room” was the theme
for Reyno’ds Hall dance held in
the dance _area of the Student
Union. The guests included young
men from neighboring colleges.
Wedding bells have rung for
Zenolia Thorton, a member of the
sophomore cIess. We wish, for her
all joys in her future.
The persons who are responsi
ble for the recent movies must
have had the Bennett girls !n
mind when they presented “Tam

season. I would have you once
again restore Christ to his right
ful place of prominence and im
portance. I would have you adopt
as your motto: “O come into my
heart. Lord Jesus, there is room
in my heart for Thee.”
Sometimes it’s hard to tell
who’s behind all that make-up.
Schools are running full blast
now, and again the teachers in
some rooms are m.aking the little
things count.

The Story of Christmas
And there were it that same
country shepherds abiding in *th;
field, keeping watch over their
flock by night. And, lo, the angel
of the Lord came upon them, and
the glory of the Lord shone round
about them; and they were sore
afraid. And the angel said unto
them. Fear not:- for, behold, 1
bring you good tidings of great
joy, which shai; be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in
the city of David a Saviour, which
is Christ the Lord. And tlys shall
be a sign unto you; Ye shall find
the babe wrapped in swaddling
clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with
the angel a rnultii,‘ude of the
heavenly host praising God, and
saying. Glory to God in the high
est, and on earth peace, good wil.
toward men.
And it came to pass, as l,hc
angels were gone away from th'm
into heaven, the shepherds said
one to another. Lot us now go
even unto Bethlehem, and- see th!.-;
thing which has come to pass,
which the Lord hath made known
unto us.
And they came with haste, and
found Mary, and Joseph, and the
babe lying in a manger. And
when they had seen it. they made
known abroad the saying whi;h
was told them concernin,^' ih::'
child.
And all they that heard it
wondered at those things which
were told them by the sh^plierds.
But Mary kept all these things
and pondered them in' her heart.
And the shepherds returned.
As bewitching and dazzling as
Christmas are these lovely young
ladies adorned in holiday bound
attire, which will serve them, as
che year turns toward January,
half a winter of dances, dates, and
big week-ends yet to come.
