IS Colley Trip Enthusiastic Three stops: Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, Va,; and Norfolk State College ! No wonder 84 young ladies and four chaperons excitely assembled behind the Little Theatre on two buses to begin their tour at 2:00 a.m, last April. The trip was being sponsored and paid for by the 13 Colleges Curriculum Program. Arlington National Cemetery was the first place toured by the enthusiastic group. Here they roamed arond and took pictures of: the Marine Corps War Me- mortal, the Kenney graves, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Afterwards, they headed for che Hospitality House Motor Inn, glad for chance to relax. But Boss Webster’s Triangle Luncheonette 1330 E. Market St. Ph. 272-9261 "The tastiest Sandwiches in Town" lunch and a rest period quickly revived them, and they were ready to continue. This time the Smithsonian Institute and sur rounding areas being their des. tination. In small groups they viewed Constitutional Avenue; toured the Air and Space Building, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of History and Tech nology, the National Gallery of Art; or climbed the Washington Monument, and afterwards, the Museum of African Arts. The next day, breakfast, check out, load, and departure for Wil- liamsburg, Va! After arriving, there was lunch at Williams burg’s Inforniation Center, a background movie, Md a guided tour. Some of the students later remarked that it was like a dream becoming a reality to see a city so *‘ol(F’ and so "pure,” After their stop over at Wil. liamsburg the group had one more stop, Norfolk State College, Here the young ladies were gre- eted by some of the male stu dents on the 13CCP there and the Omaga Psi Phi faternity. Later a special planetarium show was given to hi^light the even ing. Leach’s Beauty & Barber Shop For excellence in hair care 971 E. I found it both informative and in teresting, What follows are hints on the future and points of in terest that the two representa tives imparted to the group about their respective jobs and their relation to the Task Force, The Task Force, which is cen tralized in Washington, D.C.,has been aided and advised by former Vice-President Hubert H. Hum phrey, Following his suggestion of offering the public “living proof” of what one can do or be come actual representatives were engaged in the project “Plans for Progress.” One of the purposes of this project is to give the *'I did, so can you”, ^neral concept to the public, especially members of minority groups. To point out the deep “committment" that major com panies love in this program, Mrs. Jacqueline Pickney, Manager of Employee Publications for Gen eral Electric (Valley Forge Space Center) explained that while em ployed representatives are away from their jobs they and their replacements must be paidbythe companies. Mrs, Pinckney, employed at the Missle and Space Center, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, explained to a group of science majors several of the recent projects undertaken by G.E. These in clude a weather satelite which orbits the earth 600 miles above with a speed of 1,000 m.p.h. or more; a communication sate lite and a Bio satelite containing a monkey that will orbit the earth for 30 days, be recovered and studies made on the biological effects of extended space stay, G.E. has prefabricated houses that were first used by the Army and are now to be used for low cost housing by HUB. G. E. needs all kind of workers, especially engineers and technical writers. Mrs, Pinckney, in giving exam ples of some salaries, noted that secretaries ri^t out of high school earn about $90 per week; that engineers right out of college may earn $800 a month. Other salaries range accordingly. Mrs. Pinckney's companion was Maxine Grady, ticketing a- gent for American Airlines. Miss mt Students prepare projects for science emphasis week. Search For Unknown Keys Science Week Acts The “Search for the Unknown” was, and still is, a quest for anyone willing to do so. This was indeed the challenge as the “Science Emphasis Week” pas sed our way. The “Science Emphasis Week” was sponsored by the Science Seminar Club and the Beta Kap pa Chi honorary scientific so- ciety, April 28-May 2. The pur pose of the week-long program was quite evident. Since the im- portance of a great realm of science was emphasized. It also was made explicit the vast amount of unknown information that con. fronts the scientist today. This is why there is a tremendous need Grady is at present stationed in Memphis, Tenn. She also talked about her job and corporation. In a job like her, a two-year training program is needed and, of course to work with the air- lines, one must be willing to lo cate anywhere, wherever neeed. ed. For a job like hers, a college graduate can easily enter, re gardless of major; versatility, a willingness to learn and a like for people is >i^at counts. Miss Grady, in response to a question raised about a stewardess, eX; plained the physical require ments* The two ladies expressed con cern that each person choose a job with benefits other than just a high salary. The week started with a "bang" as the students presented very interesting and informative re- isearch reports. The hi^lights of the week were the presence of visiting lecturers, who came from Harvard University, in Bos ton, Mass., and the University of Florida at Gainsville. There also were lecturing professors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro College, It was quite evident that all of the science majors as well as the non-science majors enjoyed the “Science Emphasis Week." ^Spring Feet^ One beautiful spring day three young ladies went strolling across campus in bright colored frocks with open-toed shoes. Three handsome young men ap proached them and said, "Hi,” The girls, thinking it would be to their advantage to play hard to get continued walking without a word. As they flaunted by with their heads aloof one of the young men replied, “We didn't want to talk to you anyway cause your toes look like you been choppin| wood with 'em,'’ Moral? It is your feet that literally carries you to success. Realizing this, we have de cided to give a few points on Foot care. The daily care of your feet should include bathing for cleanliness; creaming for lubrication, hot and cold baths or alcohol for stimulation; pow. der for protection. The weekly care of your feet should include a complete pedi cure that follows this procedure; 1. File the nails strai^t across 2. Soak feet in warm soapy water 3. Push cuticles back 4. Apply cuticle remover 5. Loosen and remove dead cuticle 6. Clean under toe nail 7. Trim hangnails 8. Apply cuticle oil 9. Remove oil from nails 10. Polish if desired The benefits that you will gain from taking care of yourself are more than just physical. They are mental and emotional as well. Besides, what woman can look beautiful and relaxed when her feet are hurting?
