Thelma T. Daley will deliv
er the Commencement-Bacca-
laureate Address on Sunday,
May 13 at 4:00 p.m. Mrs.
Daley, a nationally recognized
guidance and counseling pro
fessional, is the 16th National
President of Delta Sigma
Theta Public Service Sorority.
A graduate of Bowie State
College and New York Uni
versity, Mrs. Daley directs
the Baltimore County Board
of Education Career Educa
tion Program. A past pres
ident of the American Person
nel and Guidance Association,
she was the first woman and
first black to serve in that
capacity. Prior to that distinc
tion, she had served as pres
ident of the American School
Counselors Association.
Current affiliations include
membership on the College
Entrance Examination Board
of Trustees, Board of Direc
tors of the APGA, Education
al Testing Services Guidance
Commission, and the Advisory
Boards of Direct Search for
Talent (Baltimore, Md.) and
Educational Research and In
formation Center at the Uni
versity of Michigan at Ann
Arbor.
She was appointed three
years ago to serve a three-
year term on the 14-member
National Advisory Council on
Career Education by the for
mer Secretary of Health,
Education, and Welfare.

Dr. Tucker relinquishes duties as 'Banner' adviser

After five years of dedi
cated service to the “Bennett
Banner” as adviser. Dr. Vir
ginia Tucker has decided to
relinquish her duties to
Michael Gaspeny, instructor
in the Department of Com
munications.
As adviser. Dr. Tucker was
involved in every aspect from
copy-reading stories to proof
ing the laid-out copy. She
often took responsibilities
that were not hers such as
writing news stories, billing
for advertisements and writ
ing headlines.
On Recognition Day, Dr.
Tucker was presented with a
silver ink pen and flowers as
a token of the staff’s sincere
appreciation of her service. In
summarizing her association
with the “Banner” Dr. Tucker
stated, “It has been one of the
most rewarding experiences
of my life. I have enjoyed
working with the succession
of fine editors. I will truly
miss it.”
Since she has worked with
the “Banner,” the editors
were Cheryl Johnson ’74-’76,
Diane Stevens ’76-’77, Joyce
Bass ’11-19,, and present ed
itor, Deborah Tillman ’78-’79.
“Dr. Tucker is truly an as
set to the school paper. She
performed above and beyond
the call of duty. The staff will
really be deprived of a great
adviser but I am certain that
Mr. Gaspeny will also be an
asset to the paper,” stated
Editor Deborah Tillman.

Mr. Michael Gaspeny will replace her as adviser.
