Book Review
King explores writer's other half
Nicole M. Southern
Feature Editor
Within The Dark Half,
Stephen King aeates the worst
possible scenario that can h^pen
to a novelist writing a series of
books.
Writing under the pseudonym
George Stark, Thaddeus Beau
mont gives life to a merciless kill
ing machine in a series of fic
tional novels.
During the course of his
writing career with this serial kill
ing individual, Beaumont begins
to exemplify similar characteris
tics in his own life, scaring his
wife and persuading himself to
put an end to the killing series.
Shortly after burying
(jeorge Stark and starting a new
writing career as himself, Beaumont
and his wife discover that Stark is
alive and refuses to be put to death;
Stark is even willing to take
Beaumont’s place! Stark comes to
life prepared to convince Thad to
change his mind with identical physi
cal features and sharp knives.
Throughout his novels and short
stories, Stephen King creates the
mosthorrifying scenarios of the sim
plest situations, freeing an individual
from the fear (having already expe
rienced the worst) to move on to new
things.
Movie Review
"Lyric" makes beautiful music
Tamu Johnson
Banner Reporter
Jason’s Lyric is a very mov
ing love story featuring Alan
Payne, as Jason; Jada Pinckett,
as Lyric; and Treach of Naughty
by Nature fame, as Lyric’s
brother. Much like many other
movies about African Ameri
cans, this film’s focus is on an
urban ghetto where sex, drugs,
and violence are a part of every
day life.
The plot is not only very
well defined, but also full of
surprises, such as the murder of
Jason’s father.
Without revealing too much,
it appears throughoutthe movie
that Josh, Jason’s brother, re
sponsible for the death of
Jason’s father.
All the actors are excellent,
but Pinckett and Payne stand
out Both have appeared on tele
vision comedy shows such as
the Cosby Show, and a Different
World. But in Jason’s, a much
more serious film, both actors
show how very talented and
diverse they are.
The message of the movie
make it seem much like the
movie Poetic Justice, but
Jason’s is much better because
it deals with the characte'rs emo
tions.
If your looking for a good
movie see, Jason’s Lyric. It is
playing at the Janus and Caro
lina Circle Mall Theaters, and is
rated “R.”
