Editor bids farewell to Bennett
Three and a half short years
ago, I entered the gates of
Bennett College starry-eyed and
eager to begin my college
experience. It

was here that I
learned to
become an
independent
young woman,
leaving home
for the first time. It is hard to
believe that it is time for me to
leave this safe haven.
While in high school, I never
thought that I would attend an
all-female institution, but
honestly, it was one of the best
decisions that I ever made. I will
never forget the feelings which
enveloped me as I met other
students from around the country
and around the world.
During my tenure as editor of the
Banner I have
had the opporm-
nity to meet
some incredible
people — Vice
President A1
Gore, the editor
of Emerge magazine, George
Curry, political activist, Jesse
Jackson, Secretary of Energy,
Hazel O’Leary, and poetic diva,
Stacey Lyn Evans— and of
course students from other
coUeges and universities, some
of whom will be my friends for
life.
Sports editor leaves for graduate school
I have enjoyed the position of
Sports Editor for the 1995-96
school year. As an editor I’ve
learned the
meaning of
responsibility and
sacriHce. I spent
hours in the
Banner newspa
per office editing
stories and taking pictures. My
duties even went as far as being
called to Washington, D.C. to
meet Vice President A1 Gore.
Also Fve
been given the
responsibility
of ivoducing
this entire last
issue for the
school year
which takes a lot of time and
patience. As I prepare to go to

MAJOR: SOCIAL WORK
HOME STATE: WASH., D.C.
I plan to go to graduate school to
obtain my master's degree in so
cial work. I want to open a shelter
for women and their children.
As I prepare to enter the work
force and later graduate school in
the fall 1997,1 will take with me
the values that Bennett has
instilled within me. I have
learned to appreciate the small
things such as the convocations
(ACES) that most of us dread
attending.
I could not have come this far
without the love and support that
I have received from my
professors and especially my
family.
I express a heartfelt thank you
to those who believed in me. I
will never forget Bennett and I
am proud to say that I am and
always will be a Bennett Belle.
graduate school hopefully at
Marshall University in West,
Virginia I hope that everything
Fve learned here can help me
(Ml my journey up the later of
success.
I thank Bennett College for
molding me into the phenom
enal woman that I am and every
obstacle that I overcome I know
it will be because of Bennett
College.
