2 • BENNETT BANNER - NOVEMBER 1, 1996 • OPINION ‘ OPINION • OPINION • OPINION • OPINION • Advice book upsets editor If you've ever walked past a supermarket check-out stand, then you must have seen more than 20 eye catching headlines from at least 10 different women's magazines offering advice on how to attract and keep the man of your dreams. The recent book, "7?i^by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider is one of those books. "Rules" says men are born to respond to challenge. I guess that means that if you see a cute guy in the club and he is making eye contact, then you should walk in the other direction. I don't have much expertise in this field, but I do know that if you do that, you will leave the club manless. This book promises that if a woman follows THEIR RULES she will go on to live happily ever after and have the marriage made in heaven. And get this; this book also says that if a woman follows "THEIR RULES" she will never have to worry about her spouse being unfaithful because she will somehow be the sexiest woman alive, according to him. I don't understand why some women feel that they must invest their time in attracting men instead of being more focused on strengthening themselves. I've never seen "10 Ways to Attract That Woman Who Would Never Give You The Time of Day" on the cover of "Gentlemen's Quarterly." Could it be that most men's magazines don't waste their ink on such trivial issues? epini/ut ea>p>ieAAed in I/Ua coiiunn (a tAal af.tAe oiUAm. and deeA net neceAowulf/. >iefiect the, apini4ui of tAe enthe Sienneit fSannen^ itaff. Keita White Why young people should vote for Clinton WASHING T»JJD.C.— On election day, Nov. 5, young people will play a significant role in deciding the course of America's future. Do we want to continue moving forward with a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, more jobs and educational opportunity for all or do we want to move back to the failed economic policies of the past? The choice is clear. In 1992,18-29 year olds were 21 percent of the electorate. Young people can have that impact again. President Clinton has a proven record of accomplishments for youth. In 1992, President Clinton came into office with a plan—a plan that is f, - SJhx. Americans now have more jobs, less crime and stronger communities. The president is fighting for your future. President Clinton strengthened an expanded America's economy. The deficit was cut by 60 percent; more than 10.5 million new jobs were created; we had the lowest unemployment in over 7.5 years; and interest rates decreased on car loans an home mortgages. President Clinton also opened the doors to higher education for more Americans by expanding student loans and lowering their cost, expanding scholarships, and establishing AmeriCorps, the national service initiative. He has proposed a $1,500 HOPE Scholarship tax cut for college tuition and $10,000 tuition tax deduction for leUexA will Be. puB.- tiohed in. 3"Ae 3iannex, wUhoul the authox’& name, Gnce AuimiUed, the Cett&iA (tecxtme the Aole fxxofiefU^ of. 3Jve Sienneit iBannefi and utill not $£ education an training at any age. Under President Clinton, violent crime rates have gone down each and every year. He passed the Violence Against Women Act, which provides funds to prevent rape and the sexual exploitation of runaway and homeless youth. President Clinton has a clear vision for what he wants America to be. He understands that the future of America depends on creating opportunity for young people. We need to be active participants in national politics to ensure that this vision becomes our reality.
