SGA raises $260 for D.C. quints When the members of the Student Gov ernment Association recently heard about Jacqueline TTiomp- son and her quints, they decided to join theother donors through out the country. The SGA sponsored a cam- pus-wide coin drive beginning Dec. 4. The campus response was fast and generous: The SGA raised more than $200 the day after the drive started. Thompson, a resident of Washington D.C., gave birth to six babies (one has since died) May 8. Thompson contacted various com panies asking for some kind of support, but her requests fell on deaf ears, until recently. Paper paraphernalia on the door of Takiyah Starks' second floor dorm room was set on fire. Some one sounded the dorm fire alarm at approximately 3:25 am. The fire scorched the door and scorched floor where it fell. The damage to Starks' door was minor, according to a field inci dent report filed by Capt. WJ. Beard of “This is a very serious act, prank or no prank.” Leon McDougle Station 4 of the Greensboro Fire Depart ment When Tiffany Scurlock, second floor resident assistant in Player, heard the alarm she said that she, along with the other two resident assistants instructed the residents to evacuate the dormitory and to go to the Student Union. The resident assistants contacted cam pus public safety and were told to call 911. Scurlock said that when she returned to the scene of the fire with a public safety officer, the fire had been extinguished by residents. Scurlock said residents were al lowed to return to their rooms after the campus public safety officer determined that there was no further risk to the building or its residents. That evening, Player residents attended a meeting in which safety concerns were expressed to Leon McDougle, director of Campus Public Safety, Amanda Williams, director of Residence Life and Jimmie Gravely, dean of Student Affairs. “This is a very serious act, prank or no prank,”McDougle said. Pia Holland, resident assistant in Jones Hall, gave some children something they might not receive this Christmas: toys. HoUand, along with the U.S. Marine Corps sponsored ‘Toys for Tots’ in Jones Hall Dec. 5. Holland said that more than over 70 toys were distributed to needy the children at Sl Matthews United Methodist Church and Pathways/Urban Minitries. Marine Sgt. Ems RinvU asked Holland three months ago to help with locating needy children and with distributing toys. Genyne Royal, residence director of Jones hall, said Holland, Jones Hall resi dents and Jones Hall alumnae truly under stand the importance of giving at Christmas time. "I applaud everyone for taking an active role in 'Toys for Tots,"' Royal said.
