The recent sexual assaults of four fe
male students, on the campus of North Caro
lina A & T, occurring Feb. 4 and Feb. 11,
have changed studentbehavior and increased
security at Bennett.
"I don't walk to the parking lot by myself
anymore," said Kimberly Shaffers, a junior
biology and education major from Bluefield,
W. Va.
"1 carry pepper spray and I’m much more
cautious about what time 1 come and go at
night.”
Four flood lights have been placed
throughout the campus and nightly escorts
from campus to the Washington Street park
ing lot have been implemented to ensure the
safety of the students, said Raymond
Alexander, campus public safety officer.
In addition, fliers featuring a composite
sketch of the suspect have been circulated
and posted on the doors and bulletin boards
ofthe Student Union, dormitories and class
rooms.
According to the flier, the suspect —
described as a light brown black male with
hazel eyes and a Hitler style mustache, in
his early 20s, 5-feet-10-inches to 6-feet-3-
inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds — is
being sought for robbing and or sexually
assaulting four students in secluded areas
on the A & T campus.
Greensboro Police are not handling the
case because they do not investigate crimi
nal cases on college campuses unless the
cases are homicides or first-degree rapes.

If the Holgate Library does not have the
information you need for the research pa
per, don't fret The addition of five new
computers located on the main floor may
help you find just what you are looking for.
“There are more computers to serve mul
tiple functions which helps to eliminate a
line and extend the time in which students
can use the computers,” said JuanitaPortis,
Holgate librarian.
Other databases that can be accessed
include the "African American Biographi
cal Database" the "Education Database
and Archives USA." These databases can
be found in full text but are only being
used on a trial basis.
The computers, updated software, and
increased internet access came as a result
of the Southern Education Foundation
Grant. The estimated cost of the installa
tion and equipment is $22,(XX).
The new computers also make it pos
sible for students to access library cata
logs from Bennett, Wake Forest, UNC-
G, UNC-Chapel Hill, the Library of Con
gress, and Colorado Area Research Li
braries.
