Page Two CHATHAM BLANKETEER June 9, 1936 Mrs. Archie Deane Bartlett Prior to her marriage Sunday, May 3, Mrs. Archie Deane Bart lett was Miss Myrtle Ann Carter, attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs, D. A. Carter, of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bartlett was employed in the finishing department of the Winston mill. The couple will make their home at Elkin after July 1. H. C. Club No. 1, on Wednesday night when the Club entertained her with a lovely shower. Monopoly was played at the at tractively arranged tables. At the close of which, the honoree was given cards on which were writ ten interesting verse telling her where to find the attractively wrapped gifts, brought her by her sister club members. Delicious refreshments were served with the bridal mo tif being used. On each plate a tiny bag of rice containing for tunes, was found. The attractive clubhouse was decorated with a profusion of beautiful flowers. The L. H. C. Club No. 2 served a delicious dinner to thirty-four members of the local Kiwanis Club on Friday night, June 5th. A three course dinner was served. The tables were attractively ar ranged in the living room of the Clubhouse. Bowls of roses, lark spur, ragged robin and daisies were used on the tables together with the pink candles. Helping with the dinner were Mrs. Vena Darnell, Lexa Cummings, Hazel Madison, Edith Brown, Gertrude Day, Elizabeth Mathis, Beulah Lawrence, Nancy Gray, Margar et Lyons, Pauline Morrison and Pauline Pardue. Plans for the summer have not been completed. CLUB SPONSORS FINE BANQUET (Continued from Page One) Alice Shamel; Scotch selections, Jack Smith; trio, Pool sisters. Following this delightful pro gram, an enjoyable floor show was given under the direction of Ross Morgan of the Modern Stu dios of Music and Dance. The decorations were in charge of Miss Claudia Austin, Miss Eli zabeth Flynt and Mrs. C. A. Johnson. Exquisite flowers were sent to the club by a local shop. The menu, carrying out the idea of a Scotch banquet and enter tainment, was as follows: “Scotch broth, celery, stake and tomatoes, champit tatties, green peas, sago semiasa, kale, scones and tea.” The club motto is “Be Indus trious”; club flower, pink rose; club benediction is “May the Lord watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from the oth er.” A dance followed the banquet with approximately one hundred attending. Music was furnished by Ralph Harris and his orches tra. L. H. C. BANQUET IS STAGED 28TH (Continued from Page One) Carolyn Lillard played a piano solo, “The Shepherd Boy.” Miss Mary Etta Laffoon gave a toast to the Employers, to which Mr. C. C. Poindexter responded. Little Miss Barbara Ann Ben son did a most beautiful Inter pretive Dance, accompanied on the piano by her mother. Following the three-course din ner, a program was given on deck of the ship. Mrs. Wayne Phillips, dressed in a real Sailor Suit, acted as Mas- ter-of-Ceremonies. Different coun tries that you might visit if you went a trip around the world were represented. New York, tap dance number. Little Miss Constance Greenwood: Bermuda, duet. Misses Carol and Magdalene Martin, singing, “Treasure Is land;” China, Charles Marshall Colhard, singing “China Boy,” ac companied at the piano by his sister. Miss Dorothy Colhard; Spain, Spanish Tango, McKee Twins; Scotland, Highland Fling, Jerry and Jo Barker, and Sara Lee Griffin; Grermany, Reading, Miss Lesbia Graham; California, Lexon Martin, Solo, accompanied by Miss Olene Arnold; Hollywood, Tap dance and solo. Miss Bar bara Ann Benson; Mexico, Solo, “In Old Mexico,” Leon Martin; Dude Ranch, Duet, “The Old Wagon Wheel,” Misses Carol and Magdalene Martin. The theme song throughout the banquet, was “Don’t Give Up the Ship.” Attractive costumes were used to represent each country. At the close of the banquet the guests were invited to the Club house where dancing was enjoyed during the remaining evening. Music was furnished by the Dixie Boys’ Orchestra of Winston-Sa lem. Committees helping with the decorations, etc., were the follow ing, Misses Lexa Cummings, Mar garet Lyons, Pauline Morrison, Pauline Pardue, Mary Belle Dav is, Kathryn Brannon and Vena Darnell. Carter-Bartlett Wedding Announced Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Carter of Winston-Salem, announce the marriage of their daughter, Myr tle Ann, to Archie Dean Bartlett of Elkin, Sunday, May 3, at Wytheville, Va., with Rev. Ralph J. Klirby, Baptist minister, offi ciating. Mrs. Bartlett is a graduate of the Reynolds high school, and is employed in the Finishing Dept, of the Winston plant. Mr. Bartlett is’ the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Bartlett, of Galax, Va., and has resided in Elkin for the past year, where he is asso ciated with the Hayes & Speas Co. Mr. and Mi’s. Bartlett will re side in Elkin, after July 1st.
