For These 10 Things N. C.
Should Be Thankful
Raleigh — There are at least 10 things to be thankful for
this Thanksgiving season, Governor Hoey said recently in a
Thanksgiving day statement.
The Chief Executive listed the reasons for thankfulness, con
cluding: “In this spirit I invite all North Carolina to join in ob
serving this Thanksgiving season.”
“I am thankful for peace and good will among all classes and
races throughout the State,” the Governor said:
“For a measure of prosperity enjoyed by a large proportion
of our people;
“For a plenteous harvest garnered by our farmers;
“For enlarged educational opportunities provided for child
hood and increased security for old people;
“For the greater provision made for charitable and benevo
lent institutions and the larger favor shown to the underprivi
leged;
“For the abounding generosity of the people in contributing
to community chests and other worthy causes, including orphan
ages and hospitals;
“For the unselfish interest manifested by so many people in
those less fortunately circumstanced as evidenced by their eager
spirit of helpfulness, which even extends to the prisoner in bonds:
“For the choice spirits who have suffered misfortune, sus
tained material losses, or personal bereavement, and endured it
all with high courage and uncomplaining fortitude;
“For the heritage of liberty and freedom and the guaraijties
of the Constitution;
“For the mercies and blessings of a gracious Providence and
an unfailing faith in the ultimate triumph of right.”
