T. C. U. Club Members Enjoy Trip

Picked Softball Team Will Repre
sent Elkin Plant in State
Championship Play
Fifteen players, comprising the
Chatham All-Stars, will repre
sent the Elkin plant in the 1939
State Championship Softball
Tournament. In order to qualify
for the finals which are to be
held in Raleigh on August 24, 25
and 26, it will be necessary for
the All-Stars to win the District
Tournament which will be held
in Winston-Salem on August 13.
Although definite information
has not been received from the
state commissioner relative to
the teams entered from this dis
trict it is believed that our team
will meet teams from Winston-
Salem, Mt. Airy, and Statesville.
The winner will represent the
district in the finals.
The Chatham All-Stars are
composed of players selected by
the managers of the three teams
which have been playing since
the T. C. U. Club Tournament

Enjoy New York Trip

Report Having a Wonderful Time
A party of ten T. C. U. Club
members and their leader, Mr. C.
J. Hyslup, recently returned from
a week’s visit to New York, Phila
delphia, and Washington. In in
terviewing the various members
of the group upon their return
your reporter gathered enough
interesting material to fill this-
issue of the Bianketeer, but an
attempt will be made to give only
some of the highlights of their
trip. For additional information,
one should converse with mem
bers of the party.
The group drove to Norfolk in
cars, and, after visiting the Naval
Base and Virginia Beach, board
ed the boat for New York. After
the first hour aboard the boat
the boys finally convinced them
selves that they would not allow
seasickness to spoil their trip,
and, therefore, began to take
charge of the social life on the
boat. Many of the fairer sex
Vi^ere enthusiastic about the at
tention that they received from
the young swains, so at night
several of the party were kept
busy trying to meet the demands
of the ladies.
Arriving in New York at three
o’clock Sunday afternoon the
party was met at the boat by ten
ji^oung men from the Bankers
Trust Company who were enter
tained by the T. C. U. Club dur
ing their visit to the Elkin plant
last May. Our young men were

PRACTICE GAME
Defeat Statesville Team by Score
of 9-2 in Contest Monday;
Return Game August 7
Meeting their first outside
competition at Chatham Ath
letic Field Monday afternoon, the
Chatham All-Stars of the Elkin
mill defeated a Statesville soft
ball aggregation 9 to 2 as their
first step toward participation in
the State Championship Softball
tournament, finals of which are
to be played in Raleigh the latter
part of August.
The Statesville team, repre
senting the Duchess Fibre Co.,
was unable to cope with the
Elkin team, which took the lead
in the second inning and contin
ued to add runs throughout the
game.
A return game will be played
next Monday afternoon at States
ville, it has been announced.
Proceeds of the game were
used toward the purchase of uni
forms for the team. Approxi
mately 300 fans attended.
The game was sponsored by
the T. C. U. Club.
