GIRLS LOSE tournament Enka Rayonettes Win in Finals of Southern Textiles Tourna ment by Score 18-14 Our strong girls’ basketball team lost to the Enka Rayonettes in the finals of the Southern Textiles Tournament by a score of 18-14. The tournament was held in Greenville, S. C., March 6 to 9. The Blanketeers drew a bye for the first nights of the tournament, playing only two games. They defeated Drayton Mills, in the semi-finals, by a score of 25-14. In the Drayton game, the points were distributed evenly throughout the line-up, with Ann Lineback getting six for top hon ors. Rachel Durham and Della Clayton were tops for Drayton lassies with five each. In the final game with Enka Jannie and Jennie Sherrill led (Continued on Page Eight) BOYS WIN GOLD MEDAL TOURNEY After Getting Off to Late Start, Blanketeers Get Going to Mark Up Good Record The Chatham boys’ basketball team made a good showing this season after getting off to a late start. They won over half of the games played. The team was defeated in the A. A. U. Tourna ment, Class A, by the strong Hanes Hosiery Team, and came back to win the Gold Medal Class A tournament in Winston- Salem. The boys displayed a smooth- working offensive attack to sweep to an easy 79-29 victory over Knights of Pythias of Char lotte in the Class A finals of the Gold Medal tournament. Led by Mann and Dixon, the Chatham quint moved into an early lead and never relinquished it. Mann was the leading scorer (Continued on Page Eight)
