BINDING
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Myers and a
party of friends spent last Sun
day in Winston-Salem and at
tended the polo games.
Mrs. Ruth Pruitt gave a sur
prise birthday dinner for her
grandmother last Sunday. The
lady was 6i years of age.
Mae Whitener says she didn’t
have any news but someone said
she couldn’t find the right road
home one night. How about this,
Mae?
Stormy says she knows all
about the new work but she
doesn’t have time to do it all.
Arlie Vestal spent Saturday
afternoon in Winston-Salem buy
ing her new fall outfit.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mcllwee,
Mi'ses Erline Maybeny, Beatrice
Burcham and Claudia Austin
spent the past week-end in
Washington, D. C. The Mcllwees
visited the former’s mother.
Someone asked if they had no
ticed the weight that Ann is
gaining. The home cooking is
really agreeing with her.
Stormy says she would like for
her running-mate to get trans
ferred to this department.
Among the new girls added to
this department are the follow
ing: Dorothy Colhard, Vermel
Mooney, Lydia DeBorde, Minnie
Nance and Nannie Hampton.
Mrs. Lola Holcomb is among
those out sick this week. Friends
of Mamie Apperson will be glad
to learn that she has recovered
sufficiently to be removed to her
home in Jonesville.

MULE SPINNING
Since the new Sears and Roe
buck catalogues have come out
Gent Walsh has started courting
again. Now’s a chance for some
girl to get herself a new dress or
something.
We are glad to have John
Johnston back on day time. We
can keep busy now helping John
keep his ends up.
Gues? Ford West will buy him
self a new Chevrolet now as he
can’t keep oil in his V-8.
Jim Irvin has taught his wife
to cut stove wood. He says it is
good exercise for her. I guess
Jim gets more rest too.
We see that Rev. Powers isn’t
lost after all. He wasn’t really
lost, he was just hiding from the
little chickens whose mothers he
had eaten.
Walter Worth finally got him
self a shave. He was so proud of
the way his picture came out in
the movies that he decided to
keep up his appearance. She has
his ring too.
Bram Carter gets his mind off
his spinning every once and a
while and runs some mighty big
filling doffs.
Bob Boles can really sort fill
ing. He came down to help us
the other day. Seems like Rich |

Chatham and Jim Irvin can sort
better when Bob’s around too.
Walker Luffman was trying to
borrow Walt Shores’ sport road
ster the other day. Guess Walter
has grown up and has finally
learned something. He wants to
know where John Masten got his
pants, too.
Bruce Adams is trying to sell
Frank Robinson a cow. Frank
went to see the cow and it
wouldn’t give a drop of milk.
Maybe Frank didn’t want to buy
a “dry” cow, Bruce.

Mr. and Mrs. Worth Billings,
Mrs. Clyde Hinshaw and son, Joe,
and Miss Nettie Hinshaw spent
Sunday in Charlotte. While there
they visited Mrs. Beatrice Myers
Phillips who is a patient at the
Mercy hospital.
Ethel Adams and Loraine Cra
ter spent Sunday in Galax, Va.
We wonder if the bobbins that
Paul Norman uses are long
enough.
Flake Rumple seems to have
the blues these days. We won
der if the girl friend ha>s gone
back on him.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Holloway
moved into their new home in
North Elkin Wednesday.
Ruth Darnell says she can’t
stay awake seven nights a week.
Let us know the next time you
go to sleep on the job. We may
have a remedy for that,
“Snake” Hartsell seems to be
taking in the Fairs. How was
everything in Mount Airy?
Coy Carter really has a good
appetite. You should see him
eat.
The trio pictured above took
a bicycle tour to The Hollow,
Va., by way of Mount Airy, on
September 3. The trip was
made in nine hours. Left to
right they are: Tommy Parker,
sen of Mrs. Tom Parker, of the
Weaving Department, and Bil
ly and Howard Day, sons of
Mr. and Mrs, Herman Day, who
are also employees of the com
pany.

We have on our sick list this
week, Lewyer Pennell, Claud Par-
due and Coy Hanks. We wish for
them a speedy recovery.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Swaim, a son, Sept. 22. A name
for this young man has not been
selected.
Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Spicer
and Mr. and Mrs. Link Spicer
visited their brother at Eagle
Rock, Va., last week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Vestal
visited Mrs. Vestal’s mother in
Martinsville, Va., Sunday.
John Isaacs spent Sunday with
his father near Dobson.
Mr. and Mrs, Ira Hinson are
the proud parents of a son, born
September 15. It has been re
ported that Ira’s hat was burned
Sunday night with no insurance.

Beacher Shore spent a while
Thursday night at the Mt. Airy
Fair.

opossum but brings him to the
house. Unbelievable but true.
Armstrong says if the draft
gets him, his mule goes too.
Hugh Chatham was a visitor in
the Card Room Saturday.
Saturday so he can go into the
mountains.
Lester Sloop is a one-man gang
down in the new department.
Reece Hanks likes his nap
when punching out a card. We
hope he doesn’t sleep long.
Van Byrd is leaving for school.

back to work after being out for
a week due to sickness.

U. S. Army Flying Cadet,
Coy Sales likes to be off on
Mr. C. J. Hyslup
Gets Appointment
Mr. C. J. Hyslup has been ap
pointed a special agent of the
U. S. Department of Labor. He
will work under the National
Committee of the Conservation
of Mart Power in Defense Indus
tries, and his duties will consist
of promoting Industrial Safety
and Health in those industries
which are working on govern
ment orders. Mr. Hyslup will
continue his work here and will
visit other industries when called
by the Regional Director.
