The same applies to the customers of the ENDLESS BELT CORPORATION, who are practically the same as those who are buying- cigarette paper from Ecusta and book lets from Champagne, and if we continue to put our heart and soul into our work, in the quality of our product and service to our customers, I certainly feel justified in promis ing all of you a bright future. * * * I repeat, by unified and honest efforts to succee'd, we will build up good-will for all of us — ECUSTA, CHAM PAGNE and ENDLESS—and in the achievement of this, all of you must participate. While due to my prolonged absence all of you have seen less of mei than I would have liked, as soon as I am up-to- date with the work which has accumulated on my desk dur ing my absence, I will resume my regular visits to the plant, when I hope to see your smiling countenances. Faithfully yours, H. H. Straus, President Ecusta To Have Team In Softball League Ecusta has entered a team in the Henderson County Softball League, which is composed of teams from Ship- man-Lacross Hosiery Mill, Balfour Mills, Green River Mills, Kiwanis Club, Ro tary Club, Coca Cola Bottling Com pany and Ecusta. Their League is one of the best in WNC and Ecusta should feel honored to have been accepted. The schedule calls for two games per week starting May 20th and ending July 26th. All games are played under the lights on Shipman-Lacross Athletic Field at East Plat Rock. A great deal of interest has been dis played in the team and prospects are promising. Ecusta has played two practice games with other teams in the league in order to get accustomed to playing under the lights. The first game ended in 3 to 3 tie between Ecusta and Grey’s Hos iery Mill. In the second practice game, Ecusta defeated Green River Mills 21 to 4 in a 4 inning game. The team practices at 5:45 each day on the college athletic field. Those in terested in participating in this sport are requested to come out for practice. May, 1940 Committees On Safety Organized In Plant A safety committee has been organiz ed in the plant and Is now functioning-. The formation of this committee is an organized movement to make the plant as safe a place as possible in which to work and to reduce accidents to a mini mum. So far, lost time accidents have been few but the goal is to eliminate them entirely. The officers of the com pany have installed the most modern safety devices, but no safety device can replace carefulness among the em ployees. The Ecusta Committee comjiosed of Messrs. W. P. Tindall, R. F. Bennett, Roland Wilber, Kurt Suter, R. J. Kap- pers, E. O. Bryant, Enno Camenzind, and Paul Heygel held its first meeting on April 25th. Regular meetings will be held at 1:30 p. m. on the third Mon day of each month. The Champagne and Endless Belt Safety Committee composed of Messrs. O. Goepfert, L. Haswell, O. Keating, H. Golderer, T. Schepkowsky, Charles Sieb- er, Tom New, Luke Harrison and Wal ter Straus will hold regular meetings on the second Thursday of every month at 5:00 p. m. Ecusta Wins First Softball Contest As the softball season opened, the Ecusta team won the first game in the league race by defeating Green River Mills by the score of 6-3. IJud Case, Ecusta tosser, kept the opposing batter guessing and kept the situation well in hand at all times. McNeil Heaton starred in the outfield by liter ally “robbing” the opponents of hits. The whole team played a good brand of ball, coming through with hits at the right time. The game was played in a drizzling rain and the 400 or more spectators who were in the stands when the game began, took shelter in their cars parked nearby.
