PULP “A” ACTIONS The All-Star game August 13th at McCormick field turned out to be one of the highlights in sports on Western North Caro lina's sports calendar. Well over 1,000 paid admissions passed through the gates to see the picked boys from the Industrial League take into camp the stars of the Tri-State League. The final score was 7 and 3. The two players above representing Ecusta did their share in bringing home the bacon. Left-hander, Roy Whitaker, took his turn on the mound for two innings and set the boys down without a bingle. Four of the six batters to face him went down the “whiffing” manner. • David Sams, Ecusta shortstop, entered the game m the sixth inning and contributed several nice fielding plays to help the cause David has been the spark plug for the Ecusta nine during the entire season. . „ ^ Since the first All-Star game was received so favorably by fans in this section of North Carolina, it is believed that the game will become an annual affair. A great amount of praise for the success of this game should be thrown in the direction of Charley Munday, manager of the Industrial team. BASEBALL TEAM IS ON TOP AGAIN The Ecusta baseball team, during the past week, has fought its way back into the top position of the Industrial baseball league. These victories came as a result of superb pitching on the part of Roy Whitaker and some fine defensive play on the part of the entire Ecusta team. Next Saturday there will be a double-header with the Tryon team on the Ecusta diamond. This will end the regular sea son schedule.
