PAGE SIX THE ECHO JANUARY, 1944 Around 1,000 Children Attend Christmas Theatre Parties SEE MOVIES AND GEP CHRISTMAS PACKACES, TOYS Santa Claus And Helpers Officiate. All Childl*en Were Invited Approximately 1,000 “Ecusta children” enjoyed the highly en tertaining Christmas parties that were given by the company at the Clemson theatre in Brevard on December 23. Five different parties were held and each one included the show ing of several short pictures, fea turing Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Donald Duck, and other favorites. As the children left the thea tre they were greeted by Santa Claus and his helpers and present ed with Christmas packages con taining candy, popcorn and fruit. They were also given a toy and told to make as much noise on the outside as they wanted to make. The children of all employees were invited to attend the par ties. Free transportation was pro vided by the owners and drivers of the Ecusta shift buses. These parties were given under the direction of the recreational department. Refining Room-“B’^ Shift Reporting Another Christmas has come and gone and, according to re ports, everybody had a very nice time. Seems as if B shift is lucky in one respect. We were off our five days and only lost one shift. All the shift, except one, was present at the Cafeteria Thursday night after work when we had a Christmas party. Refreshments were served and presents passed out, and Mr. Ray Bennett gave one of his short talks, which was enjoyed and appreciated by all. Thanks again, for dropping by, Mr. Bennett. We express our appreciation to Mr. McDaniel and the canteen em ployees who worked, for making it possible for us to have a nice time. Quite a few of the boys have been out sick with colds and flu. Most of them are back and we sin cerely hope that the others and their families recover soon. We would like to take this op portunity to thank Mr. Straus for the presents received this Christ mas. As in years past, the pres ents came in very nice and were deeply appreciated. , Well, the old year has gone. There have been quite a few changes, several new faces and still we are making cigarette pa per. We had several schedule changes, the 48-hour week and, boy, were we glad to get our 5 days off once again. Several of our boys liave entered the armed forces this year and this has brought new men into the depart ment. We are proud of the part that our friends in the service have played in achieving military feats that our country can be well proud of, and hope that our mili tary experts are correct in pro phesying the near ending of the war. News is scarce, so we better sign off with a poke at one or two of the boys.—Ed Whitmire claims mmmM Kiddies Enjoyed Christmas Parties “I had the best time I eveo* had in my life,”/one little fellow declared who had just attended one of the Ecusta Christmas partieis for the children. The top picture shows a side view of the Clemson theatre where the parties were hejd. One of the parties was just breaking up and another one about to^ start. Note the children crowde4 in front of the theatre. In the picture shown at the right, note the little fellows carrying their packagers and blowing their horns. “Make all the noise you want to on the outside,” the kiddies were told as they left the theiatre with packages and toys. There is truly a smile of joy and happiness on the faces shown in the photos below. They had just attended one of the parties r he has plenty of rabbit meat at his home. We know he has rabbit gums all over the place but we ’ain’t seen no meat.’ We heard about an explosion the other day. See Roy Fisher for de tails. Wonder why Glover Jack son received Christmas cards from our mutual friend, Charles “Samson” Whitey Russell. This is to acknowledge them, dern him. (Note) Samson had hair. Thad Newman took a big liking to the town of Brevard the other night. “Shorty” Love has gone to wear ing a starched shirt and tie late ly. We wonder if he is holding meetings or trying to copy Bud White. The whole shift says thanks to Louise Jones for the nice Christ mas presents. Anybody wanting guns or shells should see Les Bryson and Paul Faffield. If they haven’t got ’em, maybe you can get some hunting lessons. Gosh, enough’s enough, ain’t it folks ! Buy U. S. Govemmeni Bonds and Stamps regularly. Most people who think they have nothing to do make the mis take of doing it. NOTICE TO ALL DEPT. REPORTERS Deadline For Feb. Issue Is Tues., Feb. 15th Please get copy in early, if possible. I
