September, 1945 THE ECHO PAGE FIFTEEN Visits From Our Many Employees In Service Pfc. Debois Edmundson visited Ecusta on August 22, ’45, during a 30-day furlough. He was employed in Refining Room as a- conveyor operator before entering service in August, ’42. Pfc. Edmundson had basic training at Miami Beach, at Myrtle Beach, S. C., for 18 months, at the Air Base, Colum- S. C., for two weeks and one "'eek at Camp Kilmer, N. J. He went overseas in March, ’44, serv ing with the 6th Armored Division, attached to the 28th Infantry Di- '^ision, and saw duty in England (where he met a brother), France Germany. He wears the ETO ribbon with three stars, a Presi dential Unit Citation, the Ck)od Conduct and Combat Infantry man’s Medals. Pfc. Edmundson re ports to Ft. Bragg, then to Camp Shelby, Miss., for reassignment. Garland T. Jones, S 2-c, visited ^ptember 18. Garland is stationed *n Norfolk, Va., repairing ships. He was stationed there following hoot training at Bainbridge, Md. *»arland entered service in March ^hile employed in the Finishing department. His wife, also a for- ■"er Finishing employee, accom panied him on his recent visit to *he plant. . Pfc. John F. Drake, before enter the Army in January, ’43, was •mployed in. the Finishing depart- ***ent. He called on friends at the Plant on August 27, while enjoy- *ng a 30-day leave with his fam- 'v at Hendersonville. Pfc. Drake Served with the 70th Division, and J'^ars the ETO ribbon with three hattle stars, the Good Conduct and ^Wbat Infantryman’s medals. He 'deported to Ft Bragg and expects Reassignment to the 4th. Division Camp Butner. T-Sgt. Ralph Weldon Misenhei- visited September 18, after ^ing discharged September 16 Ijnder the army point system. Wel don was overseas 10 months as an Engineer on a B-24 and a member the 13th air force. Weldon ?'*«rs the air medal with five oak '®af clusters, the good conduct ^®^al and the Asiatic-Pacific rib- with eight bronze stars. He on Munda, Guadalcanal, New guinea and the Admiralty Islands. f*is wife, Lucille McCrary Misen- ^eiitter, is employed in Cham pagne. S-Sgt BIU H. Nicholson recently ‘rrived from 18 months’ service North Africa and Italy. A mem- of the 88th. (Blue Devil) divi- f*°n, of the 5th army, he has been service two years. Bill wears h« ETO ribbon with three battle ?«rs, the Purple Heart and the ?*'onze star for heroic achievement action. Bill was employed here ® assistant canteen operator. J., later was stationed for two years at Ft. Lewis, Wash. Cpl. engaged in maneuvers at j.a*np Polk, La., and Camp Phil- PSi Kans., going overseas in Au- ’44, with duty in France, Ger- and Austria. He returned to r Welcome Back Ecusta Servicemen ★ ★ ★ A number of Servicemen have been discharged and have re turned to work. In the future, they are expected to return at a much faster rate. Needless to state, The Echo is grateful to them and takes pleasure in welcoming them back home. Printed be low is an up-to-date list of those who have returned from service. The ribbons on his uni form were for American Defense, ETO with three battle stars and Good Conduct At tfte end of Ws stay, he reported to Ft. Bragg. Cpl. Meece met his sister in Germany, and a picture of the two together appeared in a recent copy of the E^O. Pvt. Howard Watts, former warehouse employee, now of the infantry, left Ecusta on April 24, ’45, to enter the army. He had 17 weeks’ basic training at Camp Gordon, Ga. Pvt. Watts visited us on Sept. 5, ’45, during a furlough of 11 days. He was wearing the infantryman’s badge. His sister, Helen Warren, is employed in Endless Belt.. At the end of his furlough, he expects to report to Ft. Meade, Md., for re-assignment. Pfc. Tony Sansosti was a visitor to the plant on September 11, ’45, wearing the ETO ribbon with one bronz» star end the Good Conduct ribbon, as well as a Presidential citation. Prior to 18 months’ ser vice in the ETO, Pfc. Sansosti had training at Keesler Field, Miss. Before entering the army in Jan uary, ’43, he was employed in Gumming. After a leave of 32 days, Tony will report to Ft. Dix, N. J., and expects to be discharged soMi, having 89 points to his credit Pfc. Thelma Green Puskas, USMCWR, visited the plant on September 4, ’45, while on a 15- day furlough with her relatives. After six weeks’ basic training pe riod at Camp Lejeune, N. C., she has been stationed for 15 months in the Ordnance Repair Shop Of fice as typist and file clerk. Pfc. Puskas was formerly employed here in Finishing Dept., leaving for the service in April, 1944. She returned to Camp Lejeune at the end of her furlough. Pvt. John E. Smith, former Fin ishing department employee, left Ecusta for basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla., on March 20, ’45. He visited his friends at Ecusta August 14, ’45, wearing the Ex pert Infantryman’s Medal, Sharp shooter’s Medal, Rifle and Auto matic Rifle and the Expert Ma chine Gun and Carbine Medals. He is ia the army ground forces and after a furlough of 15 days will report to Ft. Meade, Md. Pvt. Smith was employed here seven months. His home is in Rosman, N. C. T-Cpl. Fritz Waldrop, after 10 months’ duty in England, Belgium and Germany, was on his way to the Pacific recently when he was recalled to the States. Fritz was as employee of the Filter Plant, leaving for the army in Sept ’43. His wife, Eunice, works in the Main Office. They visited us on Sept. 4, ’45. Cpl. Waldrop Is now enjoying a 30-day furlough and then will report to Ft Lewis, Wash. He received his training at Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft Belvoir. Sgt. Ben H. Bishop visited Ecus- tans on September 12, ’45, while on a convalescent furlough. He re turned to the States on June 17, ’45, after spending eight months with the 6th Army in New Guinea and five months with the 8th Army in the Philippines. He served in the 6th, 32nd and 43rd Divisions. His job was chief of section in anti-aircraft. He was wounded in the arm by a shrapnel shell. Sgt. Bishop wears ribbons for the Phil ippine Liberation with one battle star, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic- Pacific with two battle stars. Pri or to entering service on Decem ber 14, ’42, Ben was employed in the Machine Shop. On completion of his furlough, he reports to Bat- tey General Hospital at Rome, Ga.
