’pXge ^rWfeLVi: We fiCHO New Income Tax Law Is Effective January I WIU BE REDUCED, TABLE PUBLISHED Employees Are Requested To Clip Out The Table And Keep For Reference. The new tax law becomes effec tive January 1,1946, and will mean a reduction in taxes for everyone. The Treasury Department has furnished us a new table which' will be used for the purpose of with holding taxes during the year 1946. Your employer is required by law to withhold from your check the amount shown in the table and send it to the Treasury Depart ment. The amount of tax you will pay will depend on tke number of ex emptions you claim and the amount of money you make. Each employ ee is entitled to one exemption for himself and one for each depend ent. In order for a person to be a dependent so that you may claim an exemption for him, three condi tions must be fulfilled: first, you must furnish more than half the support; second, the dependent must not earn as much as $500.00 per year; third, he must be related to you. This relationship must be closer than a cousin. Every employee is required to furnish his employer with an ex emption certificate showing how many exemptions he claims. You now have such a certificate on file and, if it is not up-to-date, you should come by the Personnel Of fice and change it. At any time there is a change in the number of your dependents, you should change your certificate. Shown is the table and here is how it works: first, find in the first two columns of the table the amount of money you earn per week; second, follow the line across the table to the column which shows the number of ex emptions you claim. This figure is the amount that will be withheld from your check. For example, a married man with two children is entitled to one exemption for him self, one for his wife (if his wife does not work), and one each for the two children, making a total of four exemptions; and if he earns $47.50 per week, here is how he will find his tax: He will first find his wages in the first two columns of the table, which in this case is the line with the $47.00 in the first column and $48.00 in the second. He will then follow the line across the table to column 4 where he will find that the amount of his tax is 80 cents. We suggest that you tear out these two pages and save them. To Give Parties (Continued From Page One) Special movies will be shown. Free transportation for the children will be provided by the owners and drivers of the Ecusta buses and schedules will be posted in these buses. Employees who have not already secured tickets for their children to attend one of the parties are urged to do so at once.
