forts of hospitalized veterans and service people everywhere and
is aiding our suffering allies. The Transylvania county quota for
this drive is $8,000. An appeal is being made by chapter officials

Two daughters of Ecusta em
ployees have started up the road
to stardom within the past few
months. Miss Betty Barker, 8-year-
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Em
mett Barker, is making a name for
herself in New York City where
she went six months ago to become
a child model w'ith the Conover
model agency.
Betty, in addition to becoming
a top child model, is on her way
toward being a musical comedy
star, according to present indica
tions. She is currently featured in
the Broadway smash-hit revival .of
“Show Boat.”
Since going to New York, Betty
has appeared in several plays, in
television for NBC and last sum
mer won Macy’s personality con
test.

On Friday night, February 15th.,

enjoyed a Valentine bingo game
held in the Cafeteria by the Rec
reation department.

IMPROVEMENTS TO
BE MADE AT CAMP
Work To Start At Once On
Lake And The
Grounds.
It has just been announced that
work will begin immediately at
Camp Sapphire on several im
provements which will make our
camp a better place for all Ecus
tans and their families this sum
mer.
A major part of the work will bo
done in connection with the lake
whicH is one of the most popular
features there. The swimming
area will be extensively improved.
Plans call for the resurfacing of
the bottom, the building of a re
taining wall around the swimming
area, improving the dock and piers,
building a new diving tower and
equipping the lake with boats and
canoes.
The picnic ground will be ex
panded and several new barbeque
grills will be constructed. Im
provements have already been
completed on the present gymna
sium and it will be an ideal place
for square dances, bingo parties
and movies. Facilities for all types
of sports will be provided and will
be available. These will include
tennis courts, volleyball courts,
horseshoe pits, shuffleboards, bas
ketball courts, ping-pong tables,
archery equipment, badminton
courts, etc. In addition, there will
be a new baseball field, and plans
are being made to have regular

Won Several Prizes.
The Ecusta bowling team and
three of the men’s ten pin teams
in the interdepartmental league
made good showings in the West
ern North Carolina bowling tour
ney held in Asheville last week.
The Ecusta team came out sec
ond, with Champion winning first
place. In all events, Colwell, of
the Ecusta Tri-City league team,
won second place and in the dou
bles, Scroggs and Williams, of the
Pulp Mill bowlers, won the dou
bles tourney.
The Ecusta 'team missed win*
ning the tourney by only 11
points. Ecustans won in all 17
prizes. A summary of winners is
