EVERY EMPLOYEE CAN HELP
Do you know that visitors tell us that we have the
cleanest paper mill in the world?
We are proud of this, because it is a compliment to
each and every employee. You who work in the mill de
serve all the credit for this enviable reputation, and, in
turn, it is you and only you, who can maintain this rep
utation.
This is a bigger job today than ever before and it is
a job which can only be accomplished through the con
tinued co-operation of each of you. It is a bigger job to
day because of several reasons. First of all, there is the
new construction work which is going on all around us,
and which creates a lot of dust and dirt. Second, our
mill is not as young as it used to be, and as the years roll
by, dirt has a chance to accumulate. Third, summer is
approaching, and with it, the advent of hot weather.
With open windows, and with the temptation to leave
doors open, the hazards of dust, dirt and insects will
increase.
Here at Ecusta, where a pure white product is made
for human consumption, cleanliness is as important as
it is in the modern dairy supplying your milk. It is a ma
jor factor in our long and exacting list of quality stand
ards. Our customers, the cigarette makers, and in turn,
the cigarette smokers, take the purity of our paper for
granted. We who make the paper have no choice but to
concentrate constantly on maintaining, and even improv
ing, our goal of absolute purity. Cleanliness should^ be
an obsession with every person in our whole organiza
tion. Bach, of us has a personal stake in the delivery of a
pure white spotless product.
Here’s a list of things to remember:
1. Pick up and dispose of any dirt you find in the
mill, regardless of where you see it.
2. In handling broke, keep it clean. Throw out any
dirty pieces.
3. Keep all stpck cle»n. keep it off the floors, and

Camp To Have Canteen.
Full Program Of Recre
ation Is Planned
There has been a lot of excite
ment and activity centered around
Camp Sapphire lately, so your re
porter made a little visit there the
other day and discovered some of
the reasons for this activity.
Our beautiful Camp Sapphire is
undergoing a reconditioning pro
gram in preparation for the com
ing summer season. This recondi
tioning program covers just about
everything, too. For instance: a
thorough house-cleaning job has
just been completed at Lake Sap
phire. Several weeks ago the water
level was lowered so that a large
quantity of mud, which had ac
cumulated on the bottom of the
swimming area, could be re
moved. At the same time the bot
tom of the swimming area was cov
ered with a heavy coating of Co
lumbia white sand. The banks
around the swimming area have
been rocked and sodded, docks «nd
boardwalks have been repaired,
new diving boards have been or
dered and all will be ready for use
this season.
Orders have been placed for
new boats.

Bowling Banquet To
Be Held Sat. Night
The fifth annual Ecusta bowl
ing banquet will take place Satur
day at Camp Sapphire at 6:00 p.
m. Approximately one hundred
and twenty invitations have gone
out to those employees who
bowled at least oiTe game in Inter
departmental Leagues.
The party will be something of a
change from previous banquets.
This is the first time that the
bowling captains have ventured
outside the Cafeteria for the oc
casion, an^ from all indications the
banquet and party should be a
huge success.
Following a barbecued chicken
dinner, the 1946 bowling trophies
will be awarded. Other program
features will be the introduction
of prominent guests who will pre
sent short talks. The Reverend
Ashby Johnson, of the local Pres
byterian church, will be our guest
speaker.
Upon completion of the banquet,
a “Tacky” square dance with mu
sic furnished by the Ecusta String
band will be staged in the Sap*
phire gymnasiunj,
