Being Given
The first Sapphire coach
ing school is really going over
with a bang. During the first two
weeks of coaching session, forty
youngsters poured in from all di
rections to learn more about
sports and athletics in general.
These same youngsters have not
been disappointed in their de
sires. They have been a busy
group of young men from the
word “Go”, and will continue to be
busy during the last four weeks
of the school. ■ At the present
writing, most of the coaching has
been concentrating on fundamen
tals of baseball and the art of de
fense and offense in boxing. Sev
eral intrasquad games have been
played along with one-round box
ing matches between members of
the coaching school. Out of this
group several have shown their
desire to box at the July 4th pic
nic.
One of the main reasons that the
school is and will continue to be
such a success is the fact that

MANY ACTIVITIES
ARE PLANNED FOR
BIG ANNUAL EVENT
Starts In Morning And Ends
That Night. Plant To
Shut Down
The fifth annual Ecusta picnic
will probably be bigger than ever
this year since it marks the first
Independence Day celebration
since the war ended and most of
our employees who were in the
service have returned and will be
with us. Most of the employees of
Ecusta, Champagne, and Endless
and their families are expected to
come to Camp Sapphire next
Thursday, July 4th. for a day of
fun and relaxation.
A full day of activities has been
planned including almost every
kind of game or contest you can
think of.
The plant will make its annual
shutdown beginning at midnight
on Wednesday night, July 3rd and
will start up again on Friday
morning July 5th. at eight o’clock.
As has been the custom each
year, the day’s festivities will be
gin with a band concert in the
morning and will end with a big
street dance at night.
Free Ice Cream, Popcorn, And
Lemonade
There will be plenty of ice
cream and lemonade free to all
and the Cafeteria gang will be on
hand to serve it. Also the popcorn
machine will be thefe with plenty
of free popcorn. Even thoug|i
those who take part in the pie-eat
ing contests will have all the pie
they can eat, everyone is asked to
bring his own picnic basket-din-
ner, and since the picnic will last
from early in the morning until
late at night, it is suggested that
picnickers bring enough food in
th^ir baskets for two meals.
Cash Prizes Will Be Given
There will be all kinds of con
tests for every member of the
family and cash prizes will be
given to the winners of these con
tests. The contests will include
foot racing, dizzy wizzy races, flag
races, egg, potato, relay, rope-
