New^nd Gossip From Our Various Departments
Autobound News
By EULA GRAY
We have two brides since our
last writing. They are Jennie
George and Ruby Jones. Well,
girls, we wish you a long, happy
married life.
Bang! Bang! Yes, we all had
a swell time at the picnic the
Fourth. There was plenty to eat
and lots of entertainment for
everyone.
Gladys, who is the fellow you
are so interested in at Brevard
College?
It’s a shame we don’t have some
scales in Autobound. Jewel
having some awful good eats at
her home now.
Ellen, where did you get your
nice suntan? It surely looks nice
You would think Lillian and
Kathryn were working in the
Purchasing Department when they
spend the morning in town.
Gee, Evelyn, how were those
lonely nights you spent while your
special one was working evenings
If you have fallen behind on
any of the ball games, ask Char
lotte about them. From all reports
I think she is keeping close track
on them. Or is it the special pitch
er you’re keeping your eye on?
Mary, how did the auction sale
turn out? Looks as though you
got your share of the sunshine.
Martha, is that true what I hear
about wedding bells for you?
Helen, who is your new friend
you have been getting mail from?
Say you think the navy is O. K.?
Evelyn T. has a new boy friend
that always happens to be up
at the canteen when she goes
It was a shame your girl friends
were along and you had to divide
your chewing gum.
This is all of the gossip I’ve
heard lately that can be told so it
will be so long until August.

Well, here we are back on the
job after a short vacation spent
at home, giving most of our time
to getting the garden in order.
On returning, we find that Dr.
Bryant is off on his vacation.
We were also surprised to learn
of the marriage of Bill Long on
Sunday, July 21, to Miss Margaret
Shytle of Rutherfordton at the
First Baptist church in Ruther
fordton. We wish you lots of luck
and happiness, Bill.
Dot Singletary has been vac-
tioning at Folly Beach and has
acquired a nice sun tan.
We are glad that Bob Rhyne’s
little girl has recovered from her
tonsil operation and is back to
normal again.
Frank Ferrell and Ulysses Bell
have been getting in quite a lot
of fishing this season. They get
their limit, of course. Charleis
Glazener is still threatening to
accompany “Bill” and Frank on
a fishing trip. Here’s hoping he
makes it someday!
U. G. Batson, the “Biscuit King,”
spent his vacation at home, and
quite successfully, too.
Roy Brown still has his bottle
of molasses, but we find he does
n’t like molasses any too well.
J. 0. Davidson is spending his
vacation at his home in Char
lotte.

CARD OF THANKS
John Johnson, of the Power
Department, wishes to thank his
friends for their kindness shown
tp him, during a recent illness.

Well, time has rolled around
and we have had another grand
time at Camp Sapphire at the an
nual July 4th. picnic. Most of the
men in our department were there
and everyone had^a grand time. We
wish to thank Mr. Straus for pro
viding so much for our pleasure
and we were sorry that he could
not be with us at this picnic.
For the past six months the
four shifts in the Pulp Mill have
been having a contest for absen
teeism and cleanliness. “B” shift
was the winner of the absenteeism
and “D” shift for cleanliness.
These two shifts were given a
chicken supper at White Pine
camp on July 17th. and everyone
had a grand time. There was plen
ty of chicken for everyone.
“Bear” Tinsley doesn’t under
stand how the fellows at the air
port know how much money a man
has. It seems that Bear and a
friend of his took a ride the oth
er day. They' were up about an
hour and when Bear paid the bill
the man just left him one dollar.
No one has found out yet just
what the ride actually cost him.
Shorty Davis says that Harry
Crane is a great fisherman. Shorty
thinks Harry traded his car for a
truck so he would have something
to haul his fish home in.
Gordon Leslie says he doesn’t
need a car for the country roads
because they are too narrow and
the trees are too close to the road
for him. Seems Gordon was riding
along the other day and all at once
he was out of the road and in the
ditch. Better watch out, you’ll have
that big car bent up, Gordon.
We can’t understand why Otto
Whiteside likes to work grave
yard all the time unless he is like a
cat, sees better in the dark than
in the light. How about this, Otto,
is this true?
Hoot Smith is a dog lover. He
says when he eats chicken he al
ways thinks of his dog and saves
all the bones for him to eat. This
is all right, Hoot, your dog will al
ways be ynur friend.
J. Hardy Kilpatrick wishes to
extend his thanks and apprecia
tion to all Ecustans who were so
thoughtful and kind to him during
his recent illness.
Inspection News
(“C” Shift)
BY SMITH AND MATTHEWS
Judging from the expressions on
everyone’s faces at the 4th of July
picnic, they were having a swell
time.
Edith S. and Appless M. report
ed having a wonderful time on
their vacation at Miami Beach.
Nice sun tan, girls!
Lois H. has been unusually hap
py for the past week. No wonder
—that’s a handsome soldier.
Lee R. is still wearing out his
tires and the Hendersonville high
way going to Davidson River.
We want to welcome Odell Gray,
Carl Wright and James Johnson
to our shift.
Harry H. has been looking all
down and out this week. Wonder
if it isn’t because he has been
eating his own cooking while his
wife has been visiting her parents?
Listen, folks. Before taking any
penicillin shots, be sure to see
John S. for instructions. He seems
to know what to do so that you
won’t feel the needle.
Glad to report that Farmer is
getting along fine after having a
minor operation in Asheville last
week.
Bessie C. spent her vacation in
Chattanooga, Tenn., and reports
a swell time.
Farmer is taking his vacation
next week and plans to go to
West Virginia. Believe me, boys,
there are really some hot spots
up there. We are led to believe
that he plans to take another trip
alone, but if this news is publish
ed before he leaves, he will prob
ably be accompanied )ay his wife
and children.
Lawrence W. is also taking his
vacation next week; says he is
going to S. C. after his canning
peaches. We wonder if he won’t
do some fishing on the sly while
down there.
Again we will say, so long until
next month.
