They tell us that they are very glad to be back on graveyard. We hear that Pvt. John B. Cul ver, of Fort Eustis, Va., is the proud father of a baby girl. She was born on May 28th and weigh ed seven and one-half pounds at birth. John tells us that she weighed ten and one-half pounds at three weeks. John was employed in the Finishing Department. Marie Barton ana some of the old graveyard shift girls say that they surely do miss this shift and wish they were back. Frosty tells us she surely can see better with her new glasses. Very becoming, too, Frosty! Even Chris looks longingly at the third shift punching out and sighs, “I wish I were back on graveyard.” Nita, what do you do with those bus tickets that you buy to Mar shall? Did you hear that prices were going up? I notice you didn’t go to Marshall that week-end. Everyone says that they took advantage of their five days off the Fourth and had a lovely time. Stewart Gash informed me this morning that he misses a certain girl’s singing on graveyard. Willoree, we didn’t know you liked carnivals so well. Or could it have been that soldier you were with? Well, that’s about all for this month. See you next month! Canteen-Cafeteria Chatter sick. Hope she will be well soon. Also sorry to hear that Con stance Fendley’s grandfather died recently. That surely is a pretty "spark ler” that Annie Lou is wearing on third finger, left hand. Wonder when the wedding bells are going to ring??? What I wants to know when I hear a hen cackle, s whether she is laying or lying.” By SULA COX Bessie and Alfred spent their vacation visiting friends in Mo bile, Ala., and from all reports had a good time. Divola and Bill also spent a very enjoyable vacation touring Ken tucky, Tennessee, Virginia and part of North Carolina. Bernice and her hubby spent their five days off in Atlanta. Lavada, Edna and Josephine were recent visitors in Asheville. ^ Smitty looks better these days since she is getting more sleep. Mrs. Blake had as guests this week her brother, J. L. Osteen, Mrs. Osteen, and two sons, Billy and John, Jr., of Greensboro. John, Jr., has just finished his second year at West Point. The blackberry crop seems slim this year. Ethel went berry picking Saturday and got more chiggers than berries. Hal and Mrs. Hal and Mr. and Mrs. Kitchen went as far as Devil’s Courthouse berry picking. Levy has not returned to work, but we hear she is recovering nice ly and hope she soon comes back to' ns. Bobby must have gone into the flower business as a side line. Your “glads” surely are pretty, Bobby! Elaine must have a boy friend in Greenville. She certainly seems dreamy after she comes back on Monday and just can’t wait until Saturday. Ralph, Pop and Hal went to see Mr. Shipman last week. We are glad to know that he is doing fine. Henry is really taking this busi ness of housekeeping seriously now for he is telling us about canning beans; etc. A. P. and one of our belles seem to be having fun at the carnival at Rosman. Henry and Faye visited Henry’s sister in GreenviUe recently and had a very nice trip. Jess, do you need an alarm clock or an ‘umbrella? Maybe you just need to have a top put on your car. Bobby, we heard that alarm clocks were for sale in Hender sonville. As you know, your job Starts 9t 8 o’clock instead pf 9:30. Filching Department BY BERTHA EDWARDS AND GINNY STEWART Bill Tritt is the proud father of a son, Charles William. We wonder what Polly’s quali fication of a good date is now since she has bought a car. Otelia Smith is very happy now that her husband is out of the navy. Jack Smith enjoyed a nice va cation at the Carolina and Wrights- ville beaches. Why one beach didn’t supply enough entertain ment we don’t quite understand. He says there were many pretty girls at both places. Virginia Burrell is going steady with some redhead. Look out, Gin- ny, or you’ll be getting ideas. Thelma Luther is wearing a beautiful diamond. She won’t tell us when the big event is to take place. Mr. Matheson didn’t enter his babies in the contest on the Fourth of July, but they tried their best to take part in the ball game. We are sorry to hear about Rev. Kilstrom’s son being very ill. We hope he will soon be strong again. Chemical Lab. Newt By IBELMA GLAZENER The chemical lab is finally set tling down from a grand and glo rious Fourth. Many thanks to those who made the Ecusta picnic possible and the happy occasion it was. Lucy Clarke came in Monday morning with a super tan and lots of gossip gathered while spend ing a week at Folly Beach. Edith Stiles is another among the “cooked.” She went to Co lumbia, S. C., for the week-end and came back on Monday. The weather was terrific, but the “sur rounding atmosphere” offset that, didn’t it, Edith? Ted Mull is still going into those Polish dances he saw while at tending a Polish festival in Wells- boro, Pa. Dorothy Johnson spent a long week-end at Chapel Hill. Anna Holliday spent five days at Folly Beach. Says if there’s something wrong with you, “See the Sun.” Ned Medford says that accord ing to him, and no fish tales told, he won the golf game the other day. Eva Sentelle made a tour of the Smokies and declared them above par this season. Marietta Rozier and Jean Kuy kendall spent the day in Green ville shopping. It is acclaimed that Gus Grose’s car doesn’t know whether to stay in Hendersonville, Asheville, Chim ney Rock or Brevard. Why, Gus?
