Maintenance Dept.
BY EMMETT CLARK
Several of the fellows are taking
their vacations now. Some report a
trip and some are just staying
home and resting.
Auvil spent his time in Ohio
with his folks.
Bub T. spent his vacation up in
Ohio, and came back with his
throat all sun-burned on the inside
from looking up at those tall
buildings.
H. DeBord spent his vacation at
home with the mumps.
Nat J. says he spent his time at
home, just resting.
John DeBord is spending a few
days in Washington, and Virginia.
H. Gardner is strutting a new
Pontiac automobile. You should
see him dress up and go uptown
in that car. You would think he
was some senator from Washing
ton. Ha!
H. Edmundson says he is going
to get his rabbit hunting over this
year before corn shredding time,
so he won’t be interrupted.
Grady Allison says he installed
a new bath tub in his house re
cently. Said he was tired of taking
a bath in the creek on those cold
winter days.
Frank McCall is building anoth
er new house.
Leon Williams has just moved
into his house trailer.
H. Hensley is courting pretty
heavily, nowadays. Wonder if we
are going to be able to keep him
any part in the preparation of
such a fine meal to us and our
families, words fail me to say
something nice enough to fit the
occasion, but I say for all of us—
THANKS TO YOU ALL!
Now at last a mystery has been
solved. Every night on the eve
ning shift a certain gentleman will
use sweet smelling cold cream and
a slick shave while bathing. Won
der why? Answer is—a Beautiful
Brunette! !-
I will close with this thought in
mind—Hold on to the old as long
as it is good, and gr»b the new
wlien becomes better,
from taking that disease they call
“Matrimony.” It seems to be
spreading pretty fast around here,
lately.
Elmer Gevedon bought a car re
cently; said he had to do some
thing—that his legs were worn off
so short now, that he was as wide
as he was high.
John Brown says his corn patch
this year is not going to be so
good.
Richard Lance is the proud papa
of a new baby girl. Thanks for the
cigars.
Carl Hyde is also a proud father
of a Ib. boy. Thanks again for
the cigars. We have two free
smokes this time.
Pee Wee and Color Back haven’t
got into anything this time, so
we will let them by—^just so they
don’t let it happen again.
Judson J. has moved again;
looks like we will have to get him
a memorandum book, so he can tell
where all he has lived.
Worth Wells bought another
house the other week. Wonder if
he is planning on a family that
large—or just getting ready for a
daughter-in-law later on.
Bob Fulton is off this week, con
structing a three-room building.
Now folks, don’t rush him to rent
it, for it’s only for a place for stor
age (and just in case he gets in
the dog house).
Carl Eldridge’s baby is in the
hospital, recovering from an op
eration to remove a safety pin
from his stomach.
Dale Orr is just recovering from
a mild case of love.
H. DeBord must have put some
of Bill Heaton’s fish under his
beans when he planted them; says
they grew so high that he is going
to have to get Westall’s ladder in
order to pick them, or get “Suds”
to perfect a wedge-shaped bullet
to shoot them off.
HANDY
A stranger in a very small town
walked into the ramshackle village
pool hall for a game, but noticed
that the set of balls were of a uni
form, dirty grey color.
‘But how do you tell the colors
apart?” he asked the proprietor.
“Oh,” wJd be, “you soon get to
know them by tbeljr shape,”
Finishing Touches
Shift “A”
BY DOT BANNING
First, this month, Jessie G. is
back, after a two weeks’ vacation.
She had a nice tan and a long rest.
We’re glad to have you back, Jes
sie.
Sorry to lose Reba Smith and
Virginia Bryson.
Dot C., don’t you know it is too
cold to go swimming in the lily
pond?
Ruth G. and Annie L. have been
smiling a lot lately. Could be Don
ald and “Fuzzy” are back.
We’re glad to have Ander Hy-
der and Harry Galloway with us
again. They have just returned
from service.
Herman Street is the proud
father of a big boy, Richard Dale,
who was born at the Transylvania
Community hospital August 2nd.
Lucy C. is back with us after a
week out, due to the illness of her
mother, who has recovered, we’re
glad to say.
They pick awful times to tear
up bridges, don’t they, Charlotte?
Donnie B. and Ruth H. went
back to third shift. Hurry back,
girls.
Mildred A., Frank S. and Dobbin
McC. all had a vacation and re
port a very nice time.
We wonder what the Plymouth
we’ve been seeing from around
Hendersonville way could be do
ing around Rosman?
We have several new girls, and
also some back from third shift.
Glad to have you, girls.
An ounce of prevention is
worth a pound of cure.
