Refining News Shift “D” By BILL HENSON Well, this is “D” Shift, back in the news once again. Quite a few exciting things have happened, but of course, some of them can’t be printed. With fishing season closed, we are now in for some tall tales from the Hunting club. But our advice to you is not to mention over six squirrels, as that’s all you are al lowed for one day. Our Coffee King, Jerry Free man, is still going strong. “C” and “D” Shifts had a very enjoyable evening on Sunday, September 15th., at Camp Sap phire, with first a softball game, then a delicious turkey supper with all the trimmings, and last of all, a bingo party with quite a number of flne prizes given. Ev eryone present had a most enjoy able evening from beginning to end. We want to take this oppor tunity to thank Mr. Straus for the fine supper and party, and also Mr, Eversman, Mr. and Mrs. Ben nett, and all those who helped pre pare and serve the good food. Everyone is probably wondering why Speedy Jones is smoking so many different brands of cigarettes the last few days. Well, the only reason we can figure out is that Mrs. Jones won several packs at the bingo party. The shovel presented to Bud White sure has come in handy. Why didn’t we think of that be fore? Henly Clark from “C” Shift won the Speedy Jones special, a com plete outfit, if we have ever seen one—everything from safety pins to vitamins. The most outstanding ball play ers of the evening were sensation al second baseman. Bob Duck worth, and the one and only “go get ’em” back fielder, Jimmy Sledge.
