After a few, fleeting weeks at home "with the
folks , it was back to college this month for many
sons and daughters of Ecustans. In an informal
survey, it was found that the collegians will take
up studies in almost a score of institutions located
in several states and the variety of studies will
range from nursing and medicine to journalism,
music and law.
Almost half of the number will be getting the
feel of college life for the first time, while the
remainder of the group will return to studies
they left last June.
Betty Jean Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Dick Allen (Storeroom) entered Limestone Col
lege at Gaffney, S. C. Since she graduated from
Hendersonville High last spring, this will be her
first year at college.
Alfred Neumann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric
Neumann (Champagne) goes to Davidson for
his second year, majoring in music. Alfred is a
talented pianist and was able to further his mu
sic education at Transylvania Music Camp this
summer.
Nancy Loftis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Goode
Loftis (Fine Paper) resumes her law studies at
Wake Forest, where she will be a second year stu
dent. Nancy attended summer school and hopes
to pick up a year by attending the summer ses
sions. She is a former member of the Ecusta band.
James Newbury, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E.
Newbury (Safety Department) enters the Uni
versity of South Carolina for his junior term. Jim
is vitally interested in journalism and is ma
joring in that field at Columbia.
James Holden, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Holden, Sr., (Champagne) is entering Brevard
College where he is expected to strengthen the
football team. James graduated from Brevard
High and was a star athlete there.
Margaret Ann DeBord, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Horace DeBord (Maintenance) is another
enrolle at Brevard College. Margaret Anne is also
a Brevard High graduate and is an active member
of the Ecusta band.
