the proud owner of a Dodge truck. Raleigh Waldrop and his wife are planning on having a beautiful lawn this Summer. They have it in good shape now, but we wonder how much work Raleigh really did. Steve Hensley, son of Floyd Hensley, is home on leave from the Navy, and Floyd is taking his vacation while he is here. Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Mc Call, is recovering from an appendectomy. Rus sell Mason’s children, Louise, Elaine and Dana are recovering from chicken pox. The following took their vacations recently: Vincent Dixon, Robert Jennings, Ben Bishop, Bu- vee Parker, Evin Nicholson, J. Weldon Gillespie, Ulysses C. Summey, Jocephus Norman, W. Odell Gray, Ralph Sentelle, Robert King, Floyd Hen sley, Louise Corn and Holland Corn. We are sorry to lose Judy Hensley, w^ho left us on March 18 to devote her time to house keeping. ELECTROCHEMICAL PLANT NEWS By Gene Stepp Vacations seem to have the spotlight in this department. The boss, A1 Ream, is away at the present. Broughton Canup has just returned from Daytona Beach after spending several days fish ing. Several from this department attended the Valentine Bingo Party in the Cafeteria, February I4th. We didn’t see many from our department carrying away prizes but maybe we’ll have better luck next time. Carroll Metcalf is one of our busiest members. When he isn’t working at Ecusta, he is driving a taxi or a bus. Last fall he did take time off to go squirrel hunting. Since the bowling season is about over, our thoughts are turning to baseball. Certainly hope that Ecusta has another hustling ball club this year. ACROSS THE TRACKS By Betty Finck Dot Sams, who resigned this month, is going to be missed by her many friends at Ecusta; and we want her to know we wish her much happiness for the future. Frank Ferrell ran into a snow storm on his fishing trip to Fontana last Sunday; however, he reported that the fish were biting just the same. We are glad that Bill Long is recovering nicely from his recent vacation. All of us join in wel coming Carolyn Ashworth to the Technical De partment staff. David and Dot Sams are visiting in Cross. S C. during their vacation. FINISHING TOUCHES By Betty Ann Orr — Virginia Bryson — Elizabeth Barnett SHIFT A Mr. Corbett and Bill Tritt have had vacations but they can’t say that they enjoyed them, as both were sick. Dot McMurry is on the sick list. We wish her a speedy recovery. Glad to hear that Mrs. Judd Plott is improving. Ed, doesn’t it say on a package of safty matches to "Close Cover Before Striking”? Remember to do that next time. We hope that Mary Kilpatrick will let us in on the song she is writing. It is rumored that the name is, "Springtime In The Marshalls.” Argyle Wells has a whiteface cow which gives four gallons of milk daily. Steel is a strong metal; ask Ester Reeves how to break it down. No wonder Gwendolyn G. is all smiles these days.—she has started building her new home. Everyone missed the "Radio” while he was on third shift. Since he is back with us we have plenty of static if nothing else. For information on how to enjoy hiking see Louise Stockton. Opal Breedlove and Aileen Bryson are thinking of College educations and such. Eldred Burns spent the weekend with her parents at Cedar Mountain. SHIFT B March really came in like a lion and if the old saying is true it will go out like a lamb. Anyway we are having nice weather at the present and we are enjoying it. Estelle and D. S. Orr are busy fixing up their new home on the Boylston Road, and it won’t be very much longer until they have it ready to move in. Sorry to hear that Louie Jones’ wife is sick. We hope that she will soon be well again. \S^e also wish Lessie McCall’s daughter a speedy re covery. She recently underwent an operation for appendicitis. We miss Mildred McClure and Ruth Summey who have left us to devote more time to house keeping. We are glad to have Reba Rogers, Ruby Wald rop, and Betty Danielson working on our shift. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Smith of Henedrsonville announce the birth of a daughter, Linda Marie, born March 8th. Mrs. Smith is the former Myrtle Bradley of our department. We extend our deepest sympathy to Lessie Meece upon the loss of her grandfather. Yeah, said the sophomore. When I first came here I was pretty conceited, but they took that out of me and now I’m the best fellow on the campus. 26
