SAVE FOR YOUR INDEPENDENCE
On Monday, May 15, President Truman and
Secretary of the Treasury Snyder spoke over a
nation-wide radio hook-up inaugurating the
1950 campaign for sale of U. S. Savings Bonds.
The theme of this year’s drive will be "Save For
Your Independence—Buy U. S. Savings Bonds”
and this slogan will be enhanced by a tour of the
"Liberty Bell” in our state. The "Liberty Bell” is
one of fifty duplicates of the original bell which
has been presented to the U. S. Treasury de
partment by the Bronze and Copper Industries of
the United States, with the understanding that
at the close of the drive each state will be given
permanent possession of a Liberty Bell to be en
shrined in the State capitol.
The use of the "Liberty Bell” in this campaign
has attracted an unusual amount of public in
terest, the results being that radio, television, news
papers, theatres and magazines will soon release a
flood of advertising to create a nation-wide
awareness of the purposes and goals of the drive.
A considerable amount of the publicity will be
devoted to the favorable results obtained in plants
where the Payroll Savings Plan has been installed.
Ask the Personnel Department for an "Appli
cation Card” to show how conveniently you can
save toward financial independence for yourself
and your family by the regular purchase of U. S.
Savings Bonds on the Payroll Savings Plan.
THE BUMBLEBEE CANNOT FLY
According to the theory of aerodynamics which
may be readily demonstrated through laboratory
tests and wind tunnel experiments, the bumble
bee is unable to fly. This is because the size,
weight and shape of his body, in relation to the
total wing spread, makes flying impossible.
But, the bumblebee, being ignorant of these
profound scientific truths, goes ahead and flies
anyway.
There are about 8,600 species of birds belong
ing to more than 140 families known to man.
