FINISHING DEPARTMENT "A” SHIFT Betty Anne Orr and Elizabeth Gossett Wedding bells ring this month for Laura Mae Gardner who was married to Don Lance. Con gratulations and a long and happy married life to you. Betty Stewart is wearing a beautiful diamond and the lucky man is Walker Small. Congratula tions and best wishes to you. We welcome the following girls to our depart ment: Aileen Riddle, Edna Lee Thomas and Theresa Bedsole. John Hill has been on the sick list this month, but we’re glad to report that he is back at work. Marie Nicholson is also sick and we wish her a speedy recovery. Sorry to report that Lucy Cooper’s father is ill, here’s hoping he’ll be better soon. Charles McGraw is sporting a new Ford around. Lillie Mae and Howard Galloway enjoyed a nice week-end visiting relations in Knoxville, Tennessee. Verna Lee and Frank Smith recently went on a fishing trip to Tennessee, but from all reports the following week-end was more successful since they caught sixty fish while fishing around in Transyl vania County. By the way, fishing tackle is not even needed. Rosalie Hampton has been enjoying going fish ing too. She not only gets fish when she goes, but also is getting a nice tan. Mildred Allison recently moved from Hender sonville to the Boylston Highway. Myrtle Redmond and Alton Ashworth enjoyed vacations this month. Frank Collins has a new home since his children have the measles. How doss it feel to sleep in the car and have your meals handed to you from the back door, Frank? Certainly glad that Gladys Whitmire’s son who has had the mumps is greatly improved. Louise Crawford’s husband, who is in the Navy was recently home on a ten day leave. Few women reach 30 without having been asked to marry at least twice—once by her father and once by her mother. O, this country was an Eden, And my Uncle Sam was fine When he lived within his income. And without the most of mine. "B” SHIFT Mildred Ashe Lola Shook With the arrival of spring, vacations are being planned and taken. Some folks are gardening and some are fishing, while others are contented to just rest. We are glad to have Dick Cassada work with us in the absence of our foreman, who is vacation ing in Florida. Incidentally, Randall should have some stories to tell us, either of the fish or the bathing beauties. Margaret Waldrop’s husband spent a week-end at home recently. He is stationed at Ft. Eustis, Vir ginia. Charlie Whitmire, is out sick. Hope you will soon be better, Charlie. We extend our deepest sympathy to Willoree Carland and Alton Ashworth in their recent be reavements. Judson Plott and wife spent a week’s vacation recently in Washington, D. C. Rebecca and Charles Clark have moved into their new home at Quebec. Mary Paris and Louise Stockton are all smiles these days. The reason—frequent visits from their friends—shall we say, special friends from Bur lington and Chapel Hill respectively. Glad to have Lucille Nelson back feeling frisky, after having had virus pneumonia. At this writing Curtis Pittello is out sick. Hurry and get well. Curt, we miss you. Sorry to loose Farrow Gillespie, who plans to be the house wife for a while, and we welcome Dorothy McMurray back after an absence of 18 months. Esther Walker and husband spent their vaca tion in Virginia visiting his parents. Don’t know what Jack Smith did on his week off, but anyway he had a vacation. Gladys Wirts rated IV2 dozen beautiful red roses from her husband for their 5th anniversary, which is proof enough that "Love is Grand”. Success is a fraud after all. By the time you are rich enough to sleep late, you’re so old you always wake up early. First Girl: "I refused Fred two months ago and he’s been drinking ever since.” Second Girl; "I think that’s carrying a celebra tion just a little too far.” 26
