CARDINALS LEADING LOOP
The Cardinals baseball team of the Interdepart
mental League are leading the league’s race with
a record of four wins and one loss as of Wednes-
20th. The Indians are in second place
with a 3 win, 2 loss record while the Yankees are
third with a .500 percent average of 3 wins and
3 losses.
The Tigers are in the cellar with a record of 1
win and 5 losses. However, the Tigers served notice
that they would be tough from here on out. In
cidentally the Tigers figured in one of the best
played games of the season thus far in their only
win so far, on Monday, June 18th, when they de
feated the league leading Cardinals 3 to 2. Wike
of the Inspection Department and Jones of Cham
pagne hooked up in a pitcher duel in this game
which resulted in six hits off of Wike and five off
of Jones.
On Wednesday, June 13th, preceeding the Car-
dinal-Tiger game, the Yankees and Cardinals also
turned in a fine performance with the Cardinals
winning by the slim margin of 3 to 2. Grady Wil
kie and Wilson Gregory hooked up in a pitcher
duel with Wilkie pitching a neat 3 hitter and
Gregory holding the Cardinals to six hits. While
we are recognizing the different pitchers, we want
to mention to that Fred Wilson of the Indians,
turned in his best performance on Monday, June
11th, when he limited the Tigers to 3 hits as his
team defeated the Tigers 7 to 2.
The brand of baseball displayed in our depart
mental league play in the past six games has been
exceptionally good. Therefore, we want to urge
all Ecusta baseball fans to come out and see these
games and enjoy the fellowship of your fellow
employees.
Note; The Indians defeated the Cardinals 4 to
3 on Monday, June 25th to tie the Cards for the
league’s lead.

BEACON NINE LEADS LEAGUE
The Beacon Baseball Team, shown on facing
page is leading the league at this writing with a
record of 15 wins and 3 losses. The Berkeley team
is close behind in second place with a 14 win, 3
loss record. Enka is in third place with a 10-6 rec
ord, and Clearwater fourth with a 7-11 record. Our
Ecusta nine is in the cellar with 2 wins against 14
defeats. However, the team has displayed much
improvement in the last six games, having won a
double header over the Sylva team during this
time and losing contests to Enka and Beacon by
one run margins. With the season only half over,
we think our fans are in for some very good base
ball games for the remainder of the season.
