BEACON BLANKETEERS Shown above: The Beacon Baseball Team, un der the management of ’’Pepper” Martin (stand ing at extreme left), is proving to be a champion ship contender as forecast at the opening of the season. This picture was taken on Tuesday, June 12th tvhen our Ecusta nine was host to the Blanketeers on our Ecusta Field. The Beacon nine eked out a 1 to 0 decision over Ecusta in one of the best games of the season thus far. The game had to be called at the end of the eighth inning due to rain. WNC ALL STAR GAME SET FOR JULY 29th The annual Western North Carolina Industrial Baseball League’s All Star Game is scheduled to be played on Sunday afternoon, July 29th at Mc Cormick Field in Asheville. In the event of rain, the contest will be played on Monday night, July 30th. In preparation for the contest the league of ficials have decided to try a new approach in pick ing the All Star team for the annual classic. Bal lots are being circulated among the fans, of each team in the league, in hopes that the fans will pick four players from each of the five teams to make up the All Star Team. The team that is leading the league on Saturday, July 7 th will be declared the host team and the 16 players of the other four teams who post the most votes by the fans, will make up the All Star team. The All Star team will be managed by the second place team’s manager as of the July 7th standings. Advance sales of tickets will be made for this game and we want to urge all baseball fans to at tend this game. We also want to urge every Ecusta fan to cast his ballot for his favorite players to represent the All Star Team in this annual classic. For tickets see Fritz Merrell.
