But the news we have been able to gather about salt adds seasoning aplenty toward making the American way of life even more appetizing. The Kremlin has persistently refused to deny repeated charges that when workers are late in ar riving on the job, or fail to match their work quotas, or even think in opposition to their gov ernment, the salt mines are their next stop. Thousands upon thousands of slave laborers have been put to work in the salt mines of Siberia, year after year, and under the lash of Communism have been able to produce about 4,000,000 tons of salt a year. Russia’s production, in 1948, was about one- fourth of the salt produced in the United States— just about equal to the rock salt we dug from 19 mines in eight states. The salt industry in our 13 salt-producing states and Puerto Rico, employed about 4,000 produc tion workers, who, for their year’s work in 1948, divided $9,826,000 in wages. Here’s another interesting contrast: The Krem lin owns Russia’s salt; in our country, there are 20 small companies, six medium firms and six "large” It has been shown twice at the regular Thurs- day night movies, and to some groups. HELP YOUR FBI In a recent address to the nation President Tru man asked the aid of all citizens in preventing sabotage in this country and in the tracking down of enemy agents. Here are the six rules which you should follow in helping your FBI: 1. The FBI is as near to you as your telephone. The first page of every telephone book in the country lists the nearest office of the FBI. 2. Feel free to furnish all facts in your posses sion. Many times a small bit of information might furnish the data the FBI is seeking. 3. The FBI wants FACTS. It is not interested in what a person thinks, but in what he DOES which undermines our internal security. 4. Do not circulate rumors about subversive activity. Grave injustices might result to innocent persons. 5. Don t attempt to make private investigations. Leave that to trained investigators. Investigations involving internal security require care and pain staking effort. 6. Be alert. The greatest defenders against sabo tage are the loyal American workmen who are pro- dusing the materials and weapons for our de fense.
