CASTING By Henry Heatherly Everyone has had their ears to the Radio or their eyes on T. V. for the great World Series. It was really six thrill packed games and I know that some of us won and some lost. But that is the way it is, everyone just can’t win. Old Jack Frost has been coming around again with some chilly mornings lately. Makes us all feel like squirrel hunting. I am sure most of the fellows from Casting will find time to do a little hunting. Carl Watson and Buddy Hooper have been bagging some nice ones. Jim Fisher went squirrel hunting the other night. He got some big ones. Tom Cooper bought a dog. Said it’s getting too cold to sleep in the dog house alone. Anyone who loves to see a man eat, take notice of Jug Brice. When he isn’t feeling well he eats six eggs and three wheat cakes on gravy. I am waiting to see the night he is feeling good. I hear that there is a five dollar reward on "A” shift for anyone that can top Ralph Morris at tell ing stories. Several of the fellows from our dept., have been buying new cars. I hear that Rupert Gordon has stepped out with a new Dodge, Ernest Rector with a nev/ Mercury, and Hot Rod McCall has really got a hot rod now, a twelve cylinder Lincoln. Said he had to stop twice between Charlotte and Bre vard to drain gas out of the tank. Wish I had one like that. Don Graves has really gone native since he left Clinton. He has already built a nice new home in Brevard and moved in. Nice going Don. Day dreaming can be fun if you do it at home or in a movie. But it can turn into a bad dream if you do it on the job. TRAINING INCREASES CONFIDENCE Sports writers say you always can tell when a man is fighting' his first few bouts. They say he hesitates in his corner, glances down to his man ager for encouragement, and nervously shuffles his feet before the opening bell of the first round. After this fighter has won a few bouts he doesn’t act like the same man. His confident eyes are on his opponent and his body is poised to leap for ward the instant the hammer touches the gong. While this increase in confidence comes from winning, the ability to win is the result of care ful training in a gym. This same principle applies equally as well on the job as it does in the ring. The more a co-v/orker increases his job knowledge the greater is his confidence in himself and the easier and more interesting his work at the job becomes. Shoivn above are the daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Ashe of Penrose. At top is Susan, 4 years old, and below is Michael, 10 months old. Their father is employed in Chemical and Casting. BEYOND THIS DAY One broken dream is not the end of dreaming; One shattered hope is not the end of hoping; Beyond the storm and struggle, stars are gleaming; So build your castles, though your castles fall Though many dreams come tumbling in disaster And pain and anguish meet you down the years Keep firm your face and dare your hopes to master, And never feel that you have ceased to dream. * # * # What is luxury? In Berlin, it may be a door knob. In Italy it’s likely to be an unfrayed shirt, or an electric light. In France it’s hot water and a cake of soap. In England it can be any one of the many things the Socialist government has decided are "not essential”. What about our country.^ You’d have to look pretty hard to find an American who thinks that a radio, or even an automatic refrigerator, is a "luxury”. And only in the biggest cities is an auto mobile even classed as such. 31
