NEW YEAR ONCE OBSERVED MARCH 25
Before the adoption of the Gregorian calendar
in 1752, Anglo-Saxon nations celebrated New
Year’s Day on March 25 th of each year. Even at
that time New Year’s Eve was celebrated. At one
time Christmas was celebrated in the same man
ner as New Year’s Eve is today but the Puritan
government declared Christmas a strictly religious
holiday. When New Year’s was brought back to
January 1, the celebration continued.

must decide which world.
