DEPARTMENTAL NEWS PAPER DIVISION CHAMPAGNE MACHINE SHOP By D. C. Landreth Hi friends, I am really glad to get a little bit of news in for this month. So, with spring in the air the biggest subject is fishing. All the boys are looking for ward to the day when they can take to their favorite stream, and unlimber their arm on some nice trout. There are four of us boys planning a deep sea fishing trip this spring, so I will pass it along to you with pictures and news when we return. Doyle has been a lot happier the last month, since his son (Shortie) got to go to school at Fort Benning. R. B. Shealey is planning to trip to Florida this month. We wish him good luck in traveling. I suggested he take along a 36 inch pipe wrench to work on his carburetor and a 16 pound ham mer just in case he has any trouble. We are looking forward and hoping Ecusta has a good baseball team this year. Here are a few of the plays that have happened in the Big Leagues that are noticeable. Bobby Thomson hit the most dramatic home- run in baseball history. Monte Irwin stole home for the first time in 30 years in a world series game. Gil McDougald was the first rookie to ever hit a grand slam home run in a world series game. Ned Garver is the first pitcher to win 20 games with a last place club since 1924. The longest winning streak in baseball was chalked up by the Giants in 1916. They won 26 in a row. So-long, see you next month. "Let us be of good cheer, remembering that the misfortunes hardest to bear are those which never come.” — Oliver Wendell Holmes.
