FISHING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
All persons over 16 years of age who fish by
pole and line or rod and reel outside of their
county of residence must have in their possession
a valid State fishing license or daily permit. A li
cense is required before fishing in one’s county of
residence if artificial bait is used.
All non-residents over 12 years of age must
obtain a non-resident, state-wide annual fishing
license, a non-resident 5-day permit, or a non
resident daily permit before fishing in the waters
of this State.
Members of the armed services who are resi
dents of North Carolina and are on furlough are
not required to possess a fishing license. Veter
ans who served overseas and are stationed at a
Veterans’ Hospital or facility and undergoing
treatment there are not required to possess a fish
ing license. This provision is in force for the
duration of World War II and 6 months there
after. Non-resident members of the armed forces,
assigned to active duty at a military facility in
North Carolina, are entitled to purchase resident
State fishing licenses without regard to State resi
dence requirements.
A landowner and members of his family under
21 years of age may fish on their own property
without the requirement of fishing license.
Six months’ habitation in any county is neces
sary to constitute legal residence in that county.
Chan Ashworth of the Power Department is
shown above with the 10Y4 pound bass that he
caught recently in Lake Lure. The fish was caught
on a V obi ex lure. It was '^1V4 inches long and 20
inches in girth. This bass will probably win him
a prize in the Power Department contest.
LET’S HAVE A LI’L FUN
During a fire in a certain Ohio town the editor
of the local paper, being unable to locate the reg
ular reporter, sent out the young society editress.
The story of the fire appeared thusly:
"A brilliant fire was held yesterday afternoon
at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. George Sopp on
Crown Hill Avenue. A large number of people
attended the function.
"Mrs. Sopp, who recently had her hair shingled,
made a charming escape in an exceedingly hand
some henna silk blouse, the pattern of which ap
peared on our woman’s page last week.
"The firemen, who presented an attractive ap
pearance, were suitably garbed in blue, the tunics
being full cut.
"The weather was quite delightful for an affair
of this kind, a strong wind blowing. It was rum
ored that the fire was on a larger scale than any
previous affair of a similar kind for years. It is
also rumored that it cost Mr. and Mrs. Sopp about
$25,000.”
Life begins when a person first realizes how
soon it ends.
