ECUSTA WINS OPENER Our Ecusta baseball team opened the 1952 season of play in good form by taking the opening day game from Clearwater 8 to 4. Working behind the 5-hit pitching of Kilpat rick and Frisbee, they capitalized on seven timely hits and eight Clearwater errors to win the game. Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom half of the seventh, Ecusta scored 5 runs to take over the lead. They added on two insurance runs in the eighth while Frisbee held Clearwater scoreless. Though winning the game, our Ecusta nine lost the playing services of Manager Fritz Merrell for an indefinite period. Merrell suffered a fractured ankle while sliding into third in the first inning. However, he will continue to manage the team though confined to the bench. Top photoj Mr. L. F. Dixon officially opened Ecusta’s 1952 Baseball Season when he presented to Bill Oates, Umpire-in-Chief, a new baseball to use in starting the play of the game. Those taking part in the pre-game ceremony were (left to right): Don Brank, Troy Drake, Fritz Merrell, Mr. Dixon, Bill Oates, Paul Beachboard, Norris Ayers and Charles Cordell.
