Ecusta Maintains Third Place In
League Race: Berkeley First,
Enka Second
In the past six weeks our Ecusta nine has played
500 percentage baseball winning six of twelve
games played.
On Saturday, May 17, Ecusta, behind the five
hit pitching of Grover Frisbee, defeated the
Enka club 6 to 2.
Jack Ammons, Ecusta right hander, notched his
first victory of the season Tuesday, May 20, over
Clearwater by a score of 6 to 2. Jack injured his
throwing arm on Saturday May 3, while pitching
against Clearwater. Ecusta split a twin bill with
the Berkeley nine Tuesday night May 27, losing
the first game by a score of 8 to 4 and winning
the second game by a score of 2 to 0. This was by
far the feature game of the season when Duncan
of Berkeley and our Grover Frisbee locked horns
in a real pitchers duel in the second game. Al
though Duncan limited Ecusta to two hits and had
17 strikeouts, Frisbee scattered five Berkeley hits
and struck out 12 Berkeley men to keep the Berk
eley team scoreless as his teammates tallied twice
to take the win.
Saturday May 31, Ecusta clipped Tryon 5 to 0
as Frisbee pitched a one hitter and struck out
twenty Tryon batters. Frisbee pitched eight and
one-third innings of hitless ball and came within
one man of pitching a perfect game, as only one
Tryon man reached first base during the game.
Ecusta lost a thriller to Enka on Tuesday June
3, the Enka team won 7 to 6 in an eleven inning
game. Ammons started and gave way to Frisbee
in the fifth, who was credited with the loss. On
Saturday, June 7, the team won a double-header
over the Clearwater nine by the scores of 5 to 1
and 14 to 1. Ammons was the winner of the
first game and Frisbee was the winner of the
night cap.
In the next three contests our baseballers found
the going very rough as they dropped three
games, two to Beacon and one to Berkeley. Bea
con won on Tuesdp*y June 10 and 19 by a score
of 5 to 3 and 12 to 4 respectively. Berkeley took a
3 to 1 win on Saturday June 14. Frisbee was
credited with the losses of June 10 and 14, and
Ammons was the loser on Thursday, June 19.
On Friday, June 21, Ecusta traveled to Enka
and returned with a 4 to 1 victory. Frisbee gave
up only 8 effectively spaced hits in downing the
Rayonites. The win helped Ecusta in maintaining
a hold on the third place spot in the Industrial
League standings.
Ecusta collected 12 hits off two Enka pitchers
with Brank, Miller, Houston and Merrill collect
ing two hits each. Rogers blasted the only extra
base blow for Ecusta—a triple.
