Never climb a fence or a tree with a
loaded gun. If you are alone, climb
carrying the gun with the action open
and the chamber empty. Be sure the
muzzle is in a position which will
render it harmless to yourself and to
others, and so you positively can avert
an accident even if you should fall. If
you prefer, put gun, with the chamber
emptied and muzzle pointing away
from you, through fence and on the
ground before climbing over.
When you are working through a "blow-down” or across
boulder covered ground, hold your gun securely in the
crook of your arm. Keep the safety device on but ready
to release if game should appear. By all means, be sure of
your target before you pull the trigger. For your own
safety’s sake, wear a bright red cap.
Unload your gun before you place it
in your car or before entering a tent
or building. This will insure against
accidental discharge of gun. Conley
McKinnish, Lester Brown and Charles
Galloway posed for these photos.
