departmental news PAPER DIVISION MACHINE ROOM By Charles Peevy Did you say news? We have both kinds, good and bad. As for the bad, there is a little fellow eoine around called the "flu bug”, and brother when he bites he really bites. We have several out at this writing. We wish for them a speedy re covery and also for others who might get bitten. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope not. At the present J. A. Brewer, James Jones, W. A. Williams, Owen Banning, Frank Case and Cleo Wilson are out. Clyde Seay and Robert Head have just struggled back—puny looking, toa Now for the good side of the news. The Blood- mobile is here at the plant and I understand we have pledges for 417 pints of blood. Keep up the good work men, as a discovery has been made that human blood can be used to help prevent polio— aside from the great amount of blood needed on the fighting front. We all have families which we love and want to protect. Thanks for the donations and let’s make it habit to support the program everytime the Bloodmobile comes to Ecusta. TV 4- 1 Now for the mixed good and bad news. March 15th is fast creeping up. \)^^hat does that mean? You guessed it—Uncle Sam says "Why don’t you come up and see me sometime . Others say Uncle Sam, what about a little refund . Can t say though how many are in the last category hope there are a few anyway. Seems as though we have some nice write ups from the shift boys this time, so I’ll say so long until later with this closing safety thought:^ Dont be careless today and be sorry tomorrow.” PEOPLE A six-year-old girl submitted the following composition on "people” to her teacher; "People are composed of girls and boys, also men and women. Boys are no good at all until they grow up and get married. Men who don’t get married are no good either. Boys are an awful bother. They want everything they see except soap. My ma is a woman, and my pa is a man. A woni- an is a grown up girl with children. My pa is such a nice man that I think he must have been a girl when he was a boy. Convict; "How long you in for?” New Cellmate; "99 years.” Convict; "I’m in for 75 years. Cellmate; "Then you take the bed near the door. You’re getting out first.” Chosen to be Nlciscot of the 19^3 Gfdduatwg Class of Brevard High School was Miss Anne^ Col lins, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Collins of Selica. John is employed in the Machine Room. "A" SHIFT MACHINE ROOM By Richard Nicholson Greetings one and all of the readio audience. Once more you are subjected to some A Shift gossip and scandal. Your patience, please! Those vacationing this month were as follows. Carl Bryson, Vince Drake, and Lester Brown. They reported having quiet and restful periods of relaxation while away from the plant. Reportedly, Vince Drake really let himself unwind. Vince confided in a select few that he just let his hair down, southern style, of course,- and took life sort of easy while lounging in that Florida sun. Charles Galloway and Madeline Lanning are re ported to be on the verge of getting "hitched.” Matrimony is the word for it, I think. Success and happiness to you both. Volney Nicholson keeps complaining about the high cost of living. I wonder if he has that ole Ford of his in mind when making such utterances. Harold Guice believes in working hard and in piling up the "frogskins”. Vance Shook has some fine-looking Airdale pups that he places a great deal of confidence in. Liston (Red) Hughey also claims to have an in terest in them. A guy wandered into an antique shop the other day. He almost got himself shot for asking the proprietor, "What’s new”? 18
