OFFICE BITS
By Alex Duris
Have you finished prepar
ing your income tax returns?
No? Get a move on else
you’ll be sorry!!! Aside from
the annual headache, which
aspirin tablets do not seem
to be able to cure, the month
of March holds promise that
winter is near done and that spring is just around
the corner. Which brings to mind another ques
tion. Have you bought your seed, fertilizer and
plowed your ground?
Bob Maney, (Frank Buck, Jr.) awakened one
cold, icey, blustery morning and heard a most
mournful, spine tingling cry at about 5:00 A. M.
Putting on his clothes, he went outside and faced
the wintery blast. On the very peak of his roof,
was perched, a bedraggeled old Tom cat, giving
forth those spine chilling crys.
There was only one thing to do. Bob got a
ladder and climbed to the ridge of the roof. In
spite of the hissing, spitting and scratching, Bob
brought the old tom cat down alive.
Once on terra firma, the old tom cat shifted
into high gear, and took off over the back yard
fence in a graceful swoop. The old tom cat was
last reported passing through Pisgah Forest, on
his way to Brevard. Bob went back to bed and
caught 40 more winks.
Mr. Thomas Graham, who is now retired from
the Main Office Gang, dropped in to pay us a
visit. Mr. Graham looked very well. We were
very glad that you came around, Mr. Graham.
Mr. J. E. Creech, Wilton Creech’s father under
went an operation from which he is recovering
very nicely.
Charles Brewer, back in harness in the Cost Ac
counting Department, after a hitch in Korea and
a trip around the world. We are glad to have you
Shown above are the three sons of Mr and Mrs.
William M. Millner of Brevard. They are, left
to right, Robert, 2 years old, George, 6 years old,
and "Billy” who is 10. Their father is employed
in the Main Office.
back with us, Charley.
Congratulations to Marie Eggert on her C.P.S.
rating. After taking some extensive tests she has
qualified as a Certified Professional Secretary, of
whom there are only 359 in the United States.
Dean Black has been out for some weeks after
having undergone surgery. We hope that before
this issue of The Echo goes to press that you will
be back with us and feeling fit as a fiddle!
Betty Gardner has returned to work after an
operation. Last year in January also, Betty had
spent a session in the hospital. We hope that all
of your hospital visits are over with now. Good
to see you back at work!
While burning some brush and leaves, Tom
Smith must have raked in some poison ivy, as the
smoke irritated him and gave him a bad case of
poisoning. Glad to see you getting better!
Has anyone noticed the variety of bow ties J. O.
Wells has been sporting? They are right trim!
Nan Tinsley vacationed in Mississippi and
Florida. She picked a good time to get away from
the cold weather we had at the time.
Harry Byers filled up the tank of Crosley sta
tion wagon, and spent a couple of weeks around
Palm Beach, Miami, Homestead, and the Ever
glades. Harry had a good time but remarked that
the mountains looked much better after having
spent two weeks in the flat lands of Florida.
Sidney Wilson was another to enjoy a Florida
vacation. He toured the hill, orange grove and
lake section of the ridge country in Central Flor
ida, but spent most of his time at Sarasota. Did*
you get over to the winter quarters of the Ring-
ling-Barnum-Bailey Circus? How was the swim
ming?
