switching, synchronizing, etc., is done by the op
erating personnel.
Instrumentation plays a very important part in
the control and operation of the Power and Water
Department, as well as in the manufacturing pro
cess of the Paper Division. The number of in
struments involved runs in the neighborhood of
350, exclusive of the many ordinary pressure
gauges, thermometers, etc., usually found in a set
up of this kind.
To be effective, all of these instruments must be
kept in good condition and in proper calibration
at all times. This is a function of the Meter Shop
which, although a part of the Power and Water
Department, serves both it and the Paper Division.
The employees of the Power Department, con
sisting of 39 persons, work ’round-the-clock to
provide an adequate supply of power and steam
to insure efficient operation in the manufacture of
paper and cellophane.
